Unfortunately GitHub is being rolled into MS's AI centre.
Will this still work after the takeover at the top?

Also I've seen an option in DDG with "No AI". Even though I don't know how private is Duck duck go but its very convenient. But its an AI free version of DDG and not the results I think.

ublock origin doesn’t work anymore with chromium based browsers that introduce manifest v3 (see ublockorigin.com/ ). As an alternative it’s possible to use ublock origin lite, but it is a bit limited. I haven’t checked if your tips would work there too.

@elnecesario
I've still got it working on Version 139.0.7

It would be cool to have the same thing for websites with all pages generated with AI
in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

the fact a blocker of β€˜#AI β€˜ exists shows just how rampant the scam is and it is astonishing how bad. Companies now think if you add AI to something it is somehow better even though at best it’s a mediocre #LLM (and often much worse and even deadly like Google’s AI Overview). The truth is if you have to embellish your product it’s not as good as you think. #AppleIntelligence is incredibly bad but #Apple has built products on it. Probably its beta won’t even leave.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

… and the fact that they even released beta code in a major release should horrify all programmers (it does me). It’s been over a year. Now it’s just in fine print. They don’t care. They don’t have a good way to report problems (Siri has no way and Siri is astoundingly stupid). After a certain time it’s just an excuse for releasing shitware. Perhaps it’s also vapourware. Still: some #LLM output can be quite hilarious. Because it’s so utterly stupid and baffling.
#llm
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

@xexyl True, a lot of "#AI" creation is horrible, but much of it is also incredibly advanced and working very well (often not free / public builds yet).

Maybe not for complex things, but the majority of simple digital tasks are already done very well, which is a big market. I'm not sure they will not make profit from this other than the current hype you mention.

What is your prediction for their future? :)

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

well I think that’s a far too generous view. One thing Google’s so called AI Overview did was repeat that something you can do if you’re depressed is jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. I have seen it say petrol can be a spice. That you can eat stones (it was from a ridiculous satirical article). The first one is obviously the most appalling one. There’s absolutely no excuse for that. Ever. As someone who’s been there and barely made it: that could be enough.

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

oh do not get me started on 'AI' in medicine! The same with self driving cars - think of emergency vehicles. As someone with a lot of medical problems those are the last things I want in the way. Yes it's hype and it's embellishment. Which says the product is not as good as you think. Now I'm not saying that Apple is not quality but iOS17/18, macOS14/15 .... those are another story. Siri has always been an idiot. At least she's somewhat contained unlike google, like you say.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

as for google more generally. I do not buy into the good versus evil but they certainly have serious ethical problems. And yes chrome is a serious one. They even let ad customers make their website look like OTHER websites. There was a malicious website that looked strangely like GIMP. I read somewhere on that that google allows that - for some awful reason. Aren't IDN homograph attacks bad enough without google? (Screenshot was posted on reddit and then I looked too - confirmed it).
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

I took these screenshots. 22 December 2024 for the 2023 one; it claimed the year was 2023. The other one is it claiming Apple 'Intelligence' is available in British English - if you change your device to US English. I wish I had a screenshot but I saw it say you could see Northern Lights - on Fridays, as if it was tied to that. The problem is it scrubs data and it seems to have no filters in place, worse than some of the others. LLM has no oversight but it seems to be the worst.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

@xexyl haha funny point, they actually call it 'Intelligence' ;)

seems like they were desperate to release something, even absolute alpha stuff like this

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

well in this case it wasn’t Apple but yeah Google too. Neither should ever have been released. Both are appallingly bad. The hilarious part about the Apple one though is because they were trying to be clever with the name (despite being not AI) when it goes wrong (and it does spectacularly) it makes THEM look bad because it’s named after them! #iOS 17/18 are astonishingly bad. I will comment in another reply as I am running out of space here.

something that companies believe is that they have to release SOMETHING to remain relevant. The irony is that they do indeed remain relevant but for the worst reason. iOS18 photos is horrible. I checked google for β€˜iOS photos 18’ and top searches: β€˜app sucks’, β€˜terrible’ and even more some people wanted to revert to the previous version! Not surprised. It’s a mare. They are proud of this. I can’t comprehend it. I am not sure how it even got to alpha!
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

I guess some basic users don’t mind it that much but I have filed so many bug reports and very few have even been addressed. And I read (not confirmed but) that the reason they are naming the next one is the year release. So why is it 26? Do they have a time machine besides Time Machine? When last I checked we’re in 2025. Unless they are skipping a year (like they should have recently) it should be 25! And every successive release will be off by one year. Amazing.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

oh well. Hopefully it’s not as bad as 18 (macOS is also buggy but perhaps not as bad except in Photos - actually I take that back for I have filed many bug reports for it too) but rather than redesigning everything again (I thought they just did that?) they should release a major release that fixes all the problems they have unleashed on everyone the past couple years. Apple β€˜Intelligence’ should just be axed but they’ve built newer products on it so it’s not leaving.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

anyway I am waiting for a spoon with β€˜#AI’. Or hell why not the bog? It might even be relevant to the product then! Honestly I would not be surprised if some of these things happen. It seems every company is in on the β€˜AI’ craze. Unfortunately this prevents them from actually creating something useful since they are so focused on something they don’t even understand (if we’re to go by those in the ecosystem so far). Although a toilet with it might still be useful…?

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

it's things like this that make me really want it to happen. I mean I wanted it to happen before your comment but...

Even so I would not put it past some company to do this. The IoT has the craziest ideas too. A skateboard connected to the Internet I believe? And a rifle I also think I saw once?

I mean what could go wrong there?

Maybe the IoT/'AI' toilet would decide to flush when it is getting full even when it's clogged and then overflow with ...? I could see that happening!

in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

I have seen a lot of hilarious things too. But only funny because it’s so utterly stupid or ridiculous. It’s the tech Frankenstein. And they have opened Pandora’s box. Time will tell I suppose.
in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

it does not just block websites that have AI content, it also blocks twitter profiles or entire subreddits like r/OpenAI, where you can find or learn interesting things about AI, it is not AI generated content

probably true. What is certain is the vast majority if not all are not in the least bit intelligent. Some are astonishingly stupid. Siri is astonishingly bad. So many bugs and stupidities. Here's a recent one. I asked her to send a text to someone - in my contacts. It spelt it wrong (it also makes up words). So it asked me who I wanted to send it to by: 'To who?'. But did she say WHO like the word? Nope. Why should she do that? She spelt out each letter! Oh well.

without getting into the cesspool that is politics (which I have thought for decades) that I also try not paying attention to: yes that is exactly what it is. One of the only useful things I was taught in school (I mean that's hard to substantiate but...) is the wisdom: a good reputation is hard to keep; but a bad reputation is hard to lose.

Companies seem to have a knack for getting a bad reputation with damage 'control' or trying to remain relevant. You'd think they'd know better.

in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

Haha so funny how basic some function ;)

PS I feel like it's important that we reminds ourselves : #AI = IT not HE or SHE

Because over time humanity seems to talk about them like pets, some even like friends, and very few already like partners/lovers ;)

well I would not call any of it β€˜AI’.

But that aside I do not see the problem of likening Siri to a female as that’s what she was actually started as. Although she (he) also has/can transition so we might say it’s both.

Normally (!) I would think more men are idiots than women so maybe I should change it to the male voice but it’s not as nice to hear for me.

Of course it’s not nice hearing stupidity in general but hopefully you get the idea.

in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

but as far as partners go: I wouldn’t be calling her what I call Siri and neither would I tell one to piss off when she shows up when β€˜she is not supposed to’ so that doesn’t apply for me either.

On the other hand I still do generally say please to her! I think far too few people say please and thank you. Sometimes I want to defenestrate Siri but that’s another matter entirely.

Okay yes that’s partly a rather mean joke there but you get the idea. I do actually try being polite although as far as kids I actually try avoiding them full stop. Not that I don’t do similar with other people … at least in person. Still I try very hard to be polite and I don’t like confrontation.
in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

I CAN be comfortable with people but not easily. It really depends on how I am feeling and also the person. Plenty of people are just fine but that doesn’t mean I would not rather read or program or something.

Anyway I guess the real thing is most people like that feeling of dealing with a person rather than an object. I think I probably do too. Not that I think Siri IS a person. But it’s just easier to say her/she.

in reply to Cody Boone Ferguson

besides: Siri was β€˜born’ 4 October 2011 and I was told it’s extremely rude to call children β€˜it’.

Not that I would ever call a child an it to its face ….

what is the '🀣' to? And the 'haha would love to hear one of those conversations hahah'? And the 'Haha ye definitely get your point :)'? (I guess the people one)? And finally what about 'hahaha though i think it made a million times more memories in that time than we ever could ;)'? Then maybe I can reply, if there's something to reply to of course (or maybe even if there isn't).

well the problem is the lack of context. In some cases one might be able to tell but in a longer thread it becomes less clear. One might be able to discern it but the question is whether or not you are correct for certain.

Of course twitter (or as I now call it the guano site - and have done so for years now) has the same problem.

Anyway yes it can be a problem sometimes. Just depends on how much was said prior to the reply (or replies).

Have a great day!

as far as your explanation. Yes I was aware it can do that but I also wrote multiple comments with different statements so I wasn’t sure.

It might be better opening it directly but I still saw the issue in the thread where I said several different things.

Thanks though.

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

yup. I mean people called it the β€˜bird site’. But I didn’t think it was QUITE right. Guano site on the other hand fits. Although I am sure that I could come up with even less flattering names guano site works well.

Actually I am not sure if that’s quite true. The name works well I should say. Whether the site itself works is another matter entirely with the answer of almost certainly no it does not. But I would rather avoid talking about bird poo.

, btw sad on this topic recently because youtube were nasty and smart enough to bypass some of my filters and to plug disgusting advertisements again (but only on the phone). In this scenario I was not ready to give up or being defeated πŸ˜€ and implemented new blockers. The only drawback is that I have to select them amd apply them before the video or shortcut the app.

What you do with this bad behavior on your phone specifically? I mean not any normal and sane person wants apps.

On my computer I’m with filters in the browser, efficient enough.

When you don’t want β€œto comply” with something stupid and useless you will not. It’s cool always to fight them efficiently. πŸ™‚
