While his articles do appear to be more objective than they used to be, this incident seems to indicate that he is a true believer. The website Ars Technica wanted to quote blocks genAI crawlers so, according to the website's author, the authors article probably asked a genAI powered search bot to grab some quotes from the site, was unable to reach the site, and created plausible text instead. When I can find the link to that article, I will add it.
