If you wanted one data point to understand the problem with the privatisation of the water sector, how about this:

Over the last 15 years South East Water has spent nearly as much on interest payments (on its ballooning debt) and dividends to share holders as it has invested in water infrastructure.

Which would not be a problem if that investment had been sufficient to maintain secure supplies of water to consumers.... but as we now know, it has not been!

The business model seems to be borrowing against the assets that were stupidly virtually gifted to you by the Thatcher government to sort-of maintain the system, so that you can pay out almost all your income in inflated salaries and dividends.

The public pays, then it pays again, and then it will have to pay a third time to bail out the business model when it goes bust.

Where does all that public money go ? Why, to the 'investors' of course, and to the senior managers that make the business model work for them. Neat.

Спотовый юань в Китайской системе валютной торговли CFETS на материковом рынке к 10:13 МСК был стабилен ⁠у отметки 6,9622, ранее в ходе сессии коснувшись максимума ⁠в 6,9615. На офшорном рынке китайская валюта не показывала ярко выраженной динамики, торгуясь вблизи ⁠отметки 6,9584. «Мы придерживаемся позитивной оценки перспектив экспорта и ожидаем, что ‌экспортеры будут продавать больше иностранной валюты, что будет способствовать дальнейшему ‍укреплению юаня», - говорится в записке аналитиков Bank of America. Между тем, ‌учитывая, что инвесторы по-прежнему сохраняют конструктивный взгляд на искусственный интеллект, приток иностранных средств в китайские акции также может привести к укреплению юаня, добавили они. Перед открытием сессии ЦБ Китая объявил срединный ⁠фиксированный курс на уровне 7,0019 ‍за доллар. Это второй день подряд ослабления курса после достижения 32-‌месячного максимума в начале этой недели. При этом значение оказалось на 322 pips (десятитысячных долей процентного пункта) слабее приведенного Рейтер прогноза аналитиков.

МОСКВА, 22 янв (Рейтер) - МТС-банк закрыл сделку по приобретению 99,9% акций ЭКСИ Банка, сообщил покупатель в четверг.
«Дальнейшее ⁠объединение двух банков станет следующим шагом в реализации стратегии развития бизнеса daily banking и расширения присутствия финансовых сервисов в клиентских ⁠сценариях МТС», - говорится в сообщении МТС-банка.
Санкт-Петербургский ⁠Экспортно-Импортный Банк был образован в октябре 1993 года, является участником ⁠системы страхования вкладов и специализируется на обслуживании внешнеэкономической деятельности компаний РФ.
ЭКСИ ‌Банк стал для МТС-банка стратегическим ‍технологическим партнером, организация была выбрана в 2024 году для ‌запуска флагманской дебетовой карты экосистемы МТС Деньги. Банки совместно разработали платежное решение на основе «импортозамещенной инфраструктуры».
С момента запуска проекта в июле 2024 года выпущено ⁠более 4,5 миллиона карт ‍МТС Деньги.
Более тесное взаимодействие двух банков позволит ускорить принятие ‌управленческих решений, оптимизировать операционные затраты и консолидировать клиентскую базу на единой ИТ-инфраструктуре, говорится в сообщении МТС-банка.
«Это расширит возможности кросс-продаж и увеличит число финансовых продуктов на одного пользователя».
Приобретение банка является «практически нейтральным» по влиянию на ‍норматив достаточности капитала ‍Н1.0 МТС-банка и оценивается на уровне не более -0,‍1 процентного пункта на горизонте 2026 года.
