Whenever you see what #ICE is doing in front of cameras, you must imagine what they're doing where nobody can see them--like in the concentration camps the USA is building. It's easy to read those words and much harder to fathom what they mean; that this is happening in our day and age, in what until recently was believed to be a first world country. "Abolish ICE" doesn't go nearly far enough in my view.

My son went over to a friends house this afternoon, when my wife had been planning on helping him with his French homework. This meant she had an hour or so of unexpected free time. Momentarily at a loss, she asked me what she should do, and my reply was “slack off”, meaning do something fun and creative instead of doing housework or whatever. Take a break! She jokingly replied that slacking off wasn’t on her to-do list, so she wouldn’t even know how to start.

But as with every joke, there’s more than a kernel of truth to it. We often get so busy with stuff that we’ve got to do, that we don’t leave enough time to slack, to get bored, or to simply do nothing. And that’s a pity, because do-nothing time is often among the most creative times. @JoelKlebanoff the problem isn’t Trump per se. If the man took his last breath in his sleep tomorrow night, you will just see somebody else come up the next morning to continue the work/momentum that is sponsored by the global fossil fuel industry, which includes Canadian companies and individuals.
Greenland is just a project or perhaps a distraction in itself (not saying it isn’t real, but a distraction). Where the world should be very afraid right now, and support the few who fight against it, is the conservative movement’s attack on the American Fed (Central bank). The people behind Trump have already gained control over the US Supreme Court, if they can also get control of the central bank, the world as you know it will definitely change, with or without Greenland.

@Anders @Steve Herman I don't buy into this "Trump is replaceable" rhetoric. The reason people behind Trump have gained so much is because they were behind Trump. He is the lightning rod for criticism and a rousing speaker, impressing even people who disagree with him. Nobody in his current political formation is even close, including because he sucks all the air in the room. With him gone, things would be very different. After all, nobody replaced Hitler nor a few other prominent authoritarian dictators after their death.

It is however scary to think that these organizations (and money) will eventually find someone soft spoken, articulate, and seemingly sincere, which will make the so-called independents think “he/she has a point” whereas Trump has to rely on pure tribalism… which works until it doesn’t.

This man already exists in the person of Mitch McConnell and has been working tirelessly and successfully at enabling what is now the Trump regime for the past couple decades. He has done more to undermine the biggest counter-powers to US government action than anyone else that I know of. But his work might have been somewhat in vain without the ascension of a strongman who didn't mind pushing the envelope. And before Trump, the Republicans didn't have anyone. When you look at the 2016 Republican primary field, it was bleak for them in that regard before Trump entered the fray.

Информацию о ДТП с участием Адама Кадырова и его последующей госпитализации 16 января первоначально распространили «Кавказ.Реалии» и телеграм-канал Niyso со ссылкой на свои источники. По их данным, после аварии его доставили в республиканскую больницу Грозного в тяжелом состоянии.
Позже «Важные истории», изучив данные сервиса Flightradar, сообщили, что в ночь на 17 января из Грозного в Москву вылетел санитарный борт МЧС, на котором, вероятно, транспортировали пострадавшего. Una volta mi è capitata una cosa simile e ho scoperto che, secondo l'assicurazione,

suppongo che il ragionamento sia: se dall'auto verde vedo la rossa che mi taglia la strada, devo fare di tutto per evitarla, se no è colpa mia. @Stefano Zanardi @𐌐𐌀Ꝋ𐌋Ꝋ La regola dovrebbe essere che la rotonda è un incrocio regolamentato in cui vige la regola fondamentale che in un incrocio è proibito il sorpasso.Pertanto se non si tengono le distanze di sicurezza e si tenta un sorpasso a destra la colpa è di chi urta l'auto che si trova più avanti. In questo caso c'è il concorso di colpa del gestore della strada in quanto ha fatto una rotonda a due corsie che permettono il sorpasso che comunque è sempre proibito negli incroci.

Минпросвещения России подготовило проект приказа, предполагающий возврат к советской практике выставления оценок за поведение учащихся в школах. Соответствующий документ опубликован на федеральном портале проектов нормативных правовых актов.
Согласно тексту проекта, контроль за соблюдением правил внутреннего распорядка, включая дисциплину на уроках, «может предусматривать выставление оценок поведения обучающихся». Учащиеся также будут обязаны не использовать мобильные телефоны во время занятий, за исключением экстренных случаев. Документ, если будет утверждён, вступит в силу 1 сентября 2026 года, уточнили РБК в Минпросвещения.
Как ранее сообщал «Интерфакс » со ссылкой на главу ведомства Сергея Кравцова, решение о повсеместном введении оценки за поведение будет принято в апреле 2026 года по итогам эксперимента. Пилотный проект был запущен 1 сентября 2025 года в школах семи регионов: Новгородской, Ярославской, Тульской, Ленинградской областей, Чеченской Республики, Республики Мордовии, а также на оккупированной территории Луганской области Украины. Эксперимент будет проходить до конца учебного года и охватит учеников с первого по восьмой класс.
Регионам предложено на выбор три формы оценки: пятибалльная шкала («отлично», «хорошо», «удовлетворительно», «неудовлетворительно»), зачётная («зачёт»/«незачёт») или трёхбалльная («образцовое», «допустимое», «недопустимое»).

Подобные заявления Дмитрий Баканов делал и ранее. Так, в сентябре 2025 года он говорил, что Россия запустит собственный аналог спутниковой системы Starlink в течение «двух ближайших лет». The last two months, I've been caught up reading again! At times where my body needed to relax, recharge, but my brain was still looking to be entertained... I got back to reading more again. 😊

Halfway through November, I learned about the new Dan Brown book in his Robert Langdon series. It had been a while since I read his books, so I set off, starting with Angels & Demons.
At the end of December, I finished the 6th book, the Secret of Secrets. I read another Dan Brown book after that, Deception Point.

I finished it yesterday. But now... As I started it at the end of December, is this my last finished book of 2025? Or is it the first one of 2026?

I've never really tracked my reading, but I thought it may be nice to make a thread this year, pinning 📌 it to my profile, and adding the books that I've managed to finish in

After reading all 6 Robert Langdon series books in order, I wanted to read some more Dan Brown. So, I opened Deception Point...

The style is the same as the Langdon books. Mysterious, with some real info in it to make it all more credible (and creative), and slowly building to a surprising end!

Even though I had read the book several times before, it had been a while and most of the details were a little lost on me, making this read still a very exciting one.

I sometimes see this book, and Digital Fortress, mentioned with "Robert Langdon" series, and while it's a book by Dan Brown, there's nothing with Langdon's symbolism in it...

Fun Fact: If you notice the hat on the cover, it’s a long-running joke among fans. Harry almost never wears a hat in the actual books, but the cover artists keep giving him one!
