15 янв (Рейтер) - Активы развивающихся рынков торгуются без резких движений в четверг после уверенного начала года, тогда как цены на золото и нефть просели ⁠на фоне смягчения риторики президента США Дональда Трампа относительно международной политики.
Индекс акций развивающихся рынков MSCI к 13:41 МСК мало менялся, в то время как ⁠индекс валют EM вырос на 0,2%.
Акции развивающихся рынков ⁠пользуются устойчивым спросом в январе: как сообщили аналитики ING, индекс iShares Core MSCI ⁠EM на прошлой неделе получил крупнейший приток средств с 2021 года.
«Инвесторы продолжают ‌искать возможности за пределами США, и с начала года наблюдаются ‍заметные потоки средств в акции развивающихся рынков. Все это делает ‌ситуацию на валютном рынке волатильной», - говорится в записке аналитиков.
Растущие геополитические риски в Венесуэле, Иране и Гренландии, наряду с ослаблением доллара, ростом цен на драгметаллы и уходом инвесторов из дорогостоящего техсектора США, ⁠усилили интерес к активам развивающихся рынков. Российский рынок микроэлектроники и электронных компонентов в прошлом году сократился на четверть и продолжает зависеть от иностранных поставок. По данным Ассоциации разработчиков и производителей электроники (АРПЭ), объем рынка электронных компонентов — микросхем, электроники — по итогам года снизился на 25% и составил 288 млрд рублей. Из этого объема лишь 26% приходится на продукцию российской разработки — 74,9 млрд руб. Остальное состоит из импортных поставок, сообщил CNews исполнительный директор АРПЭ Иван Покровский. По его словам, выпуск отечественной электроники сокращается второй год подряд. По данным АРПЭ, рынок откатился к уровням 2021–2022 годов. В 2021 году объем составлял 259 млрд рублей, в 2022-м — 256,8 млрд. В 2024 году рынок временно вырос до 384,6 млрд, однако доля российской продукции тогда также не превышала 26,7%. Максимальное значение было зафиксировано в 2023 году — 32%, после чего начался спад.
«Доля российских компонентов напрямую зависит от спроса со стороны предприятий оборонно-промышленного комплекса. На гражданских рынках она пренебрежимо мала. При этом финансирование гособоронзаказа сокращается, а доля иностранных компонентов в ОПК растет по мере перехода на новые поколения военной техники», — пояснил Покровский. Основным заказчиком электронных компонентов остается оборонный комплекс — на него пришлось 43% рынка. Об этом сообщает Politico со ссылкой на оказавшиеся в его распоряжении документы сербского правительства. На применение властями таких приборов в то же время жаловались участники массовых выступлений против президента Александра Вучича.
Антиправительственные выступления бушуют в Сербии уже больше года. Во время одной из крупнейших демонстраций в Белграде 15 марта 2025 года внезапно раздался резкий, оглушительный звук, заставивший людей разбежаться в поисках укрытия. Позднее демонстранты, многие из которых поступили в отделения неотложной помощи, рассказывали, что слышали звук, похожий на «группу мотоциклистов» или «локомотив», направлявшийся в их сторону.
Власти отрицали применение звуковых пушек, но Вучич пообещал провести расследование. Через две недели после этого тестирование таких приборов проводилось вместе с ФСБ на собаках, свидетельствуют попавшие к Politico документы. На животных воздействовали двумя моделями дальнодействующих акустических устройств (LRAD) производства калифорнийской компании Genasys на «расстоянии 200, 150, 100, 50 и 25 метров». ОСЛО, 15 янв (Рейтер) - Оптовые цены на газ в Великобритании и Нидерландах идут вверх в четверг: похолодание, которое, по прогнозам, ⁠продолжится до конца января, может увеличить спрос и ускорить отбор газа из хранилищ. При этом трейдеры по-прежнему обеспокоены возможными ⁠перебоями с поставками СПГ.
Фронт-фьючерс на газ в нидерландском ⁠хабе TTF к 12:35 МСК вырос на 2,25% до ⁠32,79 евро за мегаватт-час. В ходе торгов контракт ‌достиг внутридневного максимума на уровне 33,04 евро - ‍это максимум с 8 октября.
Стоимость газа расчетами «завтра» ‌в Великобритании поднялась на 3,51% до 88,5 пенса за терм, а с «немедленной поставкой» - на 1,37% до 88,5 пенса ⁠за терм.
«Низкие температуры и сокращение ‍запасов в хранилищах остаются основными факторами и причинами для ‌беспокойства, - говорится в ежедневной записке Mind Energy. - Прогноз сегодня утром вновь говорит о холодах на следующей неделе».
По словам аналитика LSEG Дмитрия Давгалевича, спрос, вероятно, вырастет, и потребности в импорте сжиженного газа увеличатся, в то время как волнения в ‍Иране создают потенциальный риск ‍для поставок.

За последние три года правоохранительные органы привлекли к уголовной ответственности за диверсии и теракты на объектах транспорта 159 подростков, сообщил ТАСС глава Следственного комитета РФ Александр Бастрыкин. По его словам, анализ расследованных случаев показал «неоднозначный» портрет «несовершеннолетнего диверсанта». «Есть подростки из неполных семей, без системного увлечения спортом и с ограниченным кругом общения, погруженные в интернет-среду и состоящие на учете в подразделениях по делам несовершеннолетних», — сказал Бастрыкин. Он пояснил, что в таком случае подростки ведомы и склонны к антисоциальному образу жизни и поведению.

ТАШКЕНТ, 15 янв (Рейтер) - Европейский банк реконструкции и развития (ЕБРР) предоставил энергетической компании Masdar из ОАЭ $195,5 ⁠миллионов для проекта строительства Гузарской солнечной фотоэлектрической станции мощностью 300 МВт и аккумуляторного хранилища мощностью 75 МВтч в ⁠Узбекистане, говорится в сообщении банка в ⁠четверг.
Финансовый пакет ЕБРР, состоящий из кредита ЕБРР на ⁠сумму до $141,6 миллиона и гарантии на сумму ‌до $25 миллионов, будет предоставлен Nur Kashkadarya ‍Solar, специальной проектной компании, полностью принадлежащей Masdar, ‌занимающейся возобновляемой и чистой энергией.
ЕБРР также сообщил, что мобилизует льготное финансирование в размере до $20 миллионов по линии правительства Канады и $5 миллионов по ⁠линии правительства Финляндии ‍в рамках Специального фонда для высокоэффективного партнерства в ‌области борьбы с изменением климата.
Кроме того, проект получит льготное финансирование в размере до $3,9 миллиона по линии Фонда сотрудничества Япония-ЕБРР и от самого ЕБРР. Ожидается, что проект также будет софинансироваться Азиатским ‍банком развития.
По ‍данным ЕБРР, после завершения строительства солнечная электростанция будет производить 664 ‍ГВтч электроэнергии в год, что обеспечит электроэнергией 60.000 домов и сократит годовые выбросы CO2 ⁠на 400.000 тонн.

США отказали рекордному с начала 2000-х числу россиян в убежище

Власти США за прошедший фискальный год, длившийся с октября 2024-го по сентябрь 2025-го, одобрили 2948 заявок на убежище для граждан России, а еще 1270 россиянам — отказали. Это следует из данных проекта TRAC, который занимается сбором информации о просителях убежища в США, обратила внимание «Верстка». При этом число отказов выросло в два раза год к году и стало рекордным как минимум с 2001-го, когда TRAC начал вести статистику. Общий уровень одобрений в убежище упал с 84% в 2024-м до 69% в 2025-м. Это самый низкий показатель за последние пять лет.
В то же время за 2022–2025 фискальные годы россиянам одобрили более чем в два раза больше заявок на убежище, чем в период с 2001 по 2021 год — 9806 против 4542. Больше всего заявок на убежище американские власти рассмотрели в 2024 году — свыше 4,6 тыс. В 2025-м было рассмотрено чуть больше 4,3 тыс. заявок. Самый высокий уровень одобрения заявок был в 2022 году — он составил 87%. В целом при президенте Джо Байдене в 2021–2024 годах гражданам России одобряли 85–87% обращений за убежищем. Во время первого срока Дональда Трампа в 2017–2020 годах уровень одобрений был ниже — 64–74%.

Большинство снятых за бюджетные деньги российских фильмов в 2025 году провалилось в прокате, как и в предыдущие годы, свидетельствуют данные Единой автоматизированной информационной системы (ЕАИС) государственного Фонда кино, которые приводит РБК.
Из указанных в ЕАИС 35 кинокартин, вышедших на экраны в прошлом году и получивших безвозвратную субсидию фонда, окупились лишь четыре. В 2024-м государство поддержало 25 фильмов, окупились пять из них. Самым провальным был 2022 год, когда в прокате провалились 25 из 26 профинансированным фондом кинолент.
Как отмечал профильный портал «ПрофиСинема», российская киноиндустрия, показав в 2025 году несколько «точечных позитивных подвижек», сохранила «катастрофические диспропорции». «Некоторые тенденции выдают признаки оцепенения индустрии при поверхностной видимости благополучия», — отмечали аналитики.
Согласно подсчетам, половина дохода от официальных показов 217 российских фильмов в 2025 году (в сумме они заработали 29 млрд рублей) приходится на 10 картин, причем пять из них «сконцентрированы вокруг отдельных периодов — Нового года и осенних каникул».
Аналитики констатируют, что лишь 2-3 отечественные картины из семерки лидеров, бюджеты которых есть в публичном поле, можно считать окупившимися за счет кинотеатрального проката. В Рубцовске Алтайского края вновь произошла коммунальная авария. В результате прорыва трубопровода на котельной № 1 без отопления остались почти 20 домов на улицах Гвардейская, Разина и Зорге, сообщил мэр Игорь Башмаков. Сейчас в городе 27 градусов мороза. Власти ввели режим чрезвычайной ситуации, создали оперативный штаб и подготовили пункт временного размещения для пострадавших жителей на базе школы № 10. По словам Башмакова, людям, желающим покинуть свои дома на время устранения аварии, предоставят спальные места, горячее питание и медицинскую помощь. Подачу тепла планируют возобновить в 17:00.
Это уже вторая коммунальная авария в Рубцовске, произошедшая после новогодних праздников: 12 января из-за прорыва на магистральном трубопроводе без тепла остались 556 многоквартирных и 350 частных домов, 24 детских сада, 12 школ и 21 медучреждение. Спустя сутки подача была восстановлена. Отоплением Рубцовска с 2017 года занимается «Сибирская генерирующая компания», связанная с миллиардером Андреем Мельниченко. МОСКВА, 15 янв (Рейтер) - Рубль показывает скромные изменения к полудню четверга, практически не реагируя на падение нефтяных цен, которые все равно остаются на относительно высоких уровнях после тестирования накануне 3,5-месячных максимумов.
Участники рынка отмечают сбалансированность текущих реальных денежных потоков на покупку-продажу инвалюты, а также пониженную спекулятивную ⁠активность в отсутствие ярких новостей и ясности с валютными операциями Минфина по бюджетному правилу после переноса ведомством публикации параметров со среды на последующие дни.
К 11.55 МСК пара юань/рубль расчетами «завтра» котировалась на Мосбирже по 11,23, и рубль теряет около четверти процента. Здесь, ⁠помимо попыток оседлать внутридневное падение нефти, негативное влияние на рубль может оказывать факт внешнего укрепления юаня до свежих ⁠32-месячных пиков.
«В ожидании новых драйверов курс может на время задержаться у 11,20 рубля за юань», - предположили аналитики банка Санкт-Петербург.
На форексе пара ⁠доллар/рубль котировалась к 11.55 МСК по 78,45, согласно данным LSEG, и рубль набирает менее 0,1%.
В паре с евро ‌рубль котировался на форексе к этому времени по 91,13, дорожая на 0,3%.

Спотовый юань в Китайской системе валютной торговли CFETS на материковом рынке к 11:01 МСК вырос на 0,05% до 6,9705, ‍тогда как на ‍офшорном рынке удерживался вблизи отметки 6,9697. Теперь участники рынка сосредоточены на ‍статистике кредитования, которая выйдет в конце недели и даст представление о состоянии экономики КНР.

Евросоюз снизит потолок цены на российскую нефть с $47,6 до $44,1 за баррель, сообщается в официальном журнале ЕС. Новый лимит начнет действовать с 1 февраля. Для контрактов, заключенных до этого срока, предусмотрен переходный период. Операции по ним должны быть завершены не позднее 16 апреля 2026 года.
ЕС и страны «Большой семерки» (G7) ввели потолок цены на российскую нефть в декабре 2022 года в рамках санкций за вторжение в Украину. Изначально он составлял $60 за баррель. Мера преследовала цель ограничить возможности Кремля по финансированию войны. Третьи страны могут покупать российскую нефть, пользуясь услугами западных компаний, только если соблюдают установленный лимит. В июле 2025-го потолок цены сделали «плавающим». Т еперь он должен быть на 15% ниже рыночных котировок. В результате с сентября лимит понизили до $47,6 за баррель. Сейчас корректировка проводится в рамках автоматической процедуры.
По данным Минэкономразвития, в декабре средняя цена российской нефти Urals упала до $39,18 за баррель — впервые за 5 лет. Из-за санкций Дональда Трампа против «Роснефти» и «Лукойла» скидки на эту марку достигли рекордных с начала войны размеров: до $28 за баррель к Brent в портах Балтийского моря и до $26 — в Черном, согласно статистикe Argus. В результате средняя стоимость российской нефти упала до минимума с мая 2020 года ($31,03), когда в мире бушевала пандемия, а глобальный нефтяной рынок пережил беспрецедентный обвал.

Sono sicuro che l'AI lavora su formule matematiche riconoscibili, sicuramente si può creare un database con tutte quelle canzoni che hanno certe ricorrenze comuni. E poi ci sono gli ascoltatori un po' scaltri, che ci mettono dieci secondi a capire. Infatti Bandcamp chiede anche segnalazioni da parte umana per poi verificare.

ЛОС-АНДЖЕЛЕС, 15 янв (Рейтер) - Космический корабль компании SpaceX с четырьмя членами экипажа совершил экстренное возвращение на Землю из-за ⁠серьезной медицинской проблемы у одного из астронавтов. Капсула рано утром в четверг приводнилась в Тихом океане недалеко от Сан-⁠Диего, завершив более чем десятичасовой спуск с Международной космической ⁠станции.
Возвращение произошло на несколько недель раньше запланированного срока и стало ⁠первым случаем досрочного завершения миссии на станции по медицинским причинам. На ‌борту аппарата на Землю вернулись астронавты ‍НАСА Зена Кардман и Майк Финке, а также ‌японец Кимия Юи и россиянин Олег Платонов. Они провели на орбите 167 дней.
НАСА сообщило о решении вернуть экипаж 8 января, отметив, что один из ⁠астронавтов нуждается в срочной ‍медицинской помощи. Личность и диагноз не раскрываются в связи ‌с конфиденциальностью этой информации.
Финке, отставной полковник ВВС США а также Кардман, новичок-астронавт и геобиолог, должны были на прошлой неделе провести более чем шестичасовой выход в открытый космос для установки оборудования снаружи МКС. Однако 7 января ‍NASA отменило выход, сославшись ‍на медицинскую проблему у одного из астронавтов.
Позже главный врач НАСА Джеймс ‍Полк уточнил, что экстренная ситуация не была связана с какой-либо травмой, полученной в ходе работ.

Мы видим, как миллионы, десятки миллионов долларов переводятся из страны контрабандой иранским руководством, мы видим, как эти деньги поступают в банки и финансовые учреждения по всему миру», — сообщил он в интервью Newsmax.
Американский Минфин отслеживает эти операции, включая переводы через обычную банковскую систему и через цифровые активы, подчеркнул Бессент. «Мы будем отслеживать эти активы, и они не смогут их удержать», — заявил министр.
Он также отметил, что Вашингтон воздействует на режим аятолл, который, по оценкам, уже убил от нескольких сотен до нескольких тысяч протестующих в ходе подавления выступлений, посредством «максимального давления на экспорт иранской нефти». Банк России планирует ужесточить контроль за трансграничными переводами физических лиц и обязать банки раскрывать больше деталей о таких операциях. Согласно подготовленному проекту указа регулятора, на который обратил внимание «Интерфакс», кредитные организации должны будут предоставлять сведения об оплате россиянами компьютерных игр, онлайн-услуг и услуг связи, а также о штрафах, компенсациях ущерба и материальной помощи.
Кроме того, Центробанк предлагает детализировать информацию об оплатах на зарубежных маркетплейсах и покупках автомобилей. Отдельно оговаривается, что будет запрашиваться больше данных об операциях с цифровыми активами и криптовалютой. Помимо этого, регулятор хочет видеть данные о резидентстве отправителя и получателя, размере комиссии, а также о способе и источнике перевода. В качестве последнего могут быть указаны наличные денежные средства, банковский счет, платежная карта или электронные денежные средства.
В Центробанке пояснили, что статистика трансграничных переводов физлиц в текущей экономической ситуации требует «углубления детализации». Также это необходимо «для более корректного отражения экономических явлений в платежном балансе, международной инвестиционной позиции и внешнем долге РФ».

[Help Design Lemmy] Joinlemmy website and New User Onboarding

When people are told about Lemmy and look for it in a search engine, join-lemmy.org is one of the first pages that comes up. Here they should be able to find out what Lemmy is, and be able to register an account to start posting.

At the moment this still seems too complicated, so I'm looking for your suggestions to improve it:
- On the main page, is the text relevant and up to date or should anything be changed?
- How about the instance selection wizard (click "join a server" on the homepage), which lets you select topics and languages to select instances. Do the current options make sense?
- The instance list itself, is there any information missing, or potential design improvements?
- And the list of apps, what can be done here? For one thing the data is rarely updated, so we would appreciate pull requests.
- Any other suggestions you may have.

In the instance list, the link to lemmyverse.net/communities seems broken right now, it only works if you remove the /communities path and then navigate to communities from the UI itself (it seems to be their own bug, it also happens if you go to the communities tab and refresh the page). Maybe the link could change to point to lemmyverse.net/ instead.

Because I've not looked at it since I signed up 2.5y ago, just went through to see how many clicks to get to a sign up page.

5 clicks is maybe slightly on the "too many" side. Perhaps language selection could be auto selected by browser language and/or default to multi.

Though randomness highlighted a 2nd issue that might not be especially visible. I got Lemmy.zip as my top suggestion so I hit the sign up button and I was greeted by a "blocked in my country because my government are idiots" page. Now I understand why the admins have made that choice, but for a new user who stumbles onto Lemmy by accident, does the 5 clicks and gets greeted by a user journey terminating error page, it's probably going to result in a fair amount of bounce.

Now I know it can't be perfect given instances don't declare by API where they are available, so I guess it would need to be a manually curated list, but maybe a feature to push instances down the list if they're geoblocked in the user's IP country

The 5 clicks is with the selection dialog, if you click "See all servers" instead (or the "Join" button in the top menu), you get to the instance list directly and can be done with 2 clicks. What do you think about renaming the button "Join a server" to "Instance selection wizard" or similar?

The country blocks are tricky, to know about this we would have to add data for allowed_countries or blocked_countries for each instance (and keep it up to date). I guess you are in the UK?

Take languages from `Accept-Language` instead of manual input

In the instance selection wizard there are explicit buttons for language selection. It would be easier if we read the languages from Accept-Language instead, just like the Lemmy backend does on sig...

It seems that Australia introduced some similar laws recently, and we can expect other western countries to follow their example over the next years. These could be handled by builtint geoblocking in Lemmy, but I'm not sure if it would really be flexible enough.

Then there is also the case of countries blocking certain websites/instances via DNS, for example China. This is not so noticable now because we have few users from such countries, but it may also get more relevant as Lemmy grows. And this is not something which can be specified on the instance itself.

The cleanest solution would be to run a service in various countries which pings the different Lemmy instances to see if they are reachable. But that would be complex to setup, and expensive to host (unless we rely on volunteers, which makes it even more complex to manage).

You can also quick join with the third button "See all servers". Again the button texts are maybe not clear enough. It could make sense to add a button "Visit random instance" directly on the homepage, similar to

I must have remembered that wrong about filtering NSFW, because now I cant find that filter anywhere. But seeing as there is only one NSFW instance in the list and its clearly labeled as such, it seems fine like this.

Join Lemmy button is redundant. In fact I don't think it should even exist. All the buttons have got to go and people should directly see the "what are your interests" selection menu.

Donation button can be on top, but I don't think it's handy to have it at onboarding when people don't know what Lemmy is

You mean those grayscale images by the features? Those are just general placeholders to avoid having all text. There arent really any images which are relevant to show for a software project.

Maybe that can be added as a filter. For now I added an icon to instances which require email to signup (#523).

Language customization should be less emphasized, or should be put in the “interests” section based on their country IP while joining. On the internet imperialist English has been considered the default language. The join-Lemmy page is English to begin with.

It uses the language configured in your browser. For me it shows in Spanish. We can also use browser language to filter the instance list without manual selection.

Frontpage buttons and topic selection are definitely the trickiest part. I would consider removing the topic selection, because there are some which barely narrow it down (technology, general or politics each show a few dozen instances), or shows only a few instances which dont match well. Plus the topics are not actively maintained.

I would avoid using instances without "lemmy" in the name like reddthat, it was very confusing to me when I started out.

I think I agree with that, at least for now. The only topic instance with real specific activity in that list is probably blahaj for the LGBTQ.

The new front page looks much better and cleaner. Not sure about the "Apps" though, people need to create an account first so. Maybe "Instance selector"? Also I'd call it "Mobile Apps" instead, "Apps" is a bit vague.

I still plead for removing both buttons and directly showing the "instance selector" in the middle area, with the "See all instances" showing in the top bar only. Maybe slightly more prominently than the other top bar

That makes sense. I went through the list and found these as reasonable defaults: lemmy.zip/, lemmy.today/, thelemmy.club/, lemmus.org/

Then it would be one of the monthly tasks for @dessalines@lemmy.ml and me to go through this list and keep it updated.

I don't think link aggregator is a good term at all. If I said that to my mom she would never imagine anything like Reddit, she'd probably think of Google instead. Forum would be much better. "Discussion forum" would fix the issue with it being too short.

Or even "forum with voting and comment trees" lol IDK, I feel like anything is better than "link aggregator".

I haven’t looked at that site in a few years.

One thing I always think about though, in order to get a better distribution of users across instances, maybe not put the biggest instances at the top (like Lemmy.world) but instead put active medium to large size instances at the very top. But not that they are too small or too inactive such that user signs up on an instance which is not properly maintained or used, giving them a bad experience and possibly losing their instance/account.

And maybe offer different levels of option selection for any type of sign up wizard. Like advanced options could let you specify a bunch of stuff. But maybe have a simple option, like googles old “I’m feeling lucky” button. But you might call it “Pick an active instance for me” or something like that. Which might again use the above sizing and activity guidelines to pick an instance for them.

Lemmy.world is already excluded from the list as it has more than 30% of active users. And the list now uses a "biased random" sorting by default, with larger instances always near the top, and smaller instances further down.

Are there any specific options you would like to see? I did just add an icon to indicate instances which require email verification (#523), but also dont want to overload the UI with too much info. And I made some changes to the homepage, including a button to open a random instance (#524).

I think the colour scheme and dark-mode screenshots contributes to it looking daunting. You even have Matrix (the film)-text in the open source banner photo. The website looks like it's trying to sell the Lemmy software instead of the Lemmy user experience/community. I think just changing those photos to gentler more iconographic or symbolic ones would go a long way towards making it lighter to process. In fact in-fact, those concepts don't really need pictures to make them easier to communicate, but the features list probably does. There's a paste-icon and then it says "Clean, mobile-friendly interface.". I think just having a mobile screenshot would communicate that way better.

As for helping the user find an instance: If you can find a concise way to communicate what federation is, that'll probably take some of the anxiety away. I don't really know how. What do people think about maybe showing like a "80% federated" type stat? Tag

We dont have any designers on the team so these things are always tricky for us. The images are quite arbitrary, so if you have any specific suggestions for better images I would be happy to replace them.

For a normal user it shouldnt be necessary to understand federation before signing up. Tags are tricky because they are dont exist in Lemmy itself, and the ones defined on joinlemmy are practically unmaintained.

I see what you mean about user count, the current layout makes it seem like the most important metric to compare instances, when in reality it doesnt matter so much. Plus the tooltips are wrong, these are only numbers for local users and local comments, federated ones are not counted (and unfortunately are not available from the API at the moment). Is there any other information you would like to see instead of these numbers? The ones I see which are relevant and easily available would be:
- Number of linked/blocked instances
- Downvotes enabled
- Languages

Ok so I think it would be best to have two ways: One really completely foolproof way, where the user does not need to know a single thing about the technologies involved. 0 upfront homework for the user.

And then a second way for users willing to take the time to do a 'manual setup'.

I created an AI slop clickable mockup real quick as it's easier to bring the idea across than describing it with lots of words. This only covers the foolproof way.

So that any fool understands what it does. Join instance name has the potential to confuse some people, because they don't know what joining instance name means - especially if some instance is chosen which name is more on the cryptic site.

This is likely a biased opinion, but could you add 'region' as a field, or 'regional' as a topic? For our instance, I think that's how a lot of people are choosing to make an account with us given recent events. It also helps the user find an instance that is nearby (for lower latency), and within a jurisdiction that they are familiar with / can have an influence over through voting or other means. pangora.social seems to be down right now, but I recall them having a nice way of organizing that

Another biased opinion, I agree that it's better to have large instances near the top since they're more likely to be up / fixed quickly / on top of moderation. You could include a note saying that larger instances are near the top because of XYZ, and that people can always make more accounts down the road if you change your mind. That way there's less pressure to pick the "correct" instance.

And the list of apps, what can be done here? For one thing the data is rarely updated, so we would appreciate pull requests.

Could you potentially collaborate with lemmyapps.com/ ? It would be easier for users to submit updates to one place (whether it is a PR to you or an update on that site)

If I were to try and critique the site in excessive detail, from top to bottom:

Could you make the logo have a rectangular / circle background around it? Right now edges look odd over the dark background. The hover effect looks nicer, maybe with different colors
In the header: News, Docs, & Contact can be collapsed into a dropdown under 'About' or something similar, since those are pages that someone would go searching for
Instead of 'Join a server', 'Donate' and 'See all servers', it might be better to have one massive "Join a Server" button/card on the front page that leads to the instance list page.
- Join a serve and See all servers are very similar for a user that's not familiar with how this all works, and they end up in the same place. So instead of a popup, could you have it as a responsive widget on the instance's page? That way users can quickly figure out how the instances are tagged
- Since the donate button is already in the header, it might be better to have a large section on donations further down the page.
The paragraph is a large block of text. I'd prefer something closer to what Peertube did
The screenshots could be larger and more prominent
The images give off 'AI generated' vibes, even if that wasn't their origin. Could you have large cards with simple icons, similar to the 3 header cards on our site: fedecan.ca/en/
I like the 'Create your own discussion platform' card's format. It's a bit hard to read, but otherwise nice
The 'more features' section could be simplified down to the important points, and maybe even combined with what is being done with the screenshots area

On the servers page:

The community explorer and fediverse observer are external sites, but they look like widgets right now.
Is every instance under one topic, or would it be possible to let the user select multiple and have instances appear and disappear from the list live?
I like Pixelfed's join page since I can quickly narrow down an instance based on what's important to me: pixelfed.org/servers

Right now it feels like the website is geared towards the style and content that technical users appreciate. I agree with the other comments that it would be nice to simplify the website down. Technical users are willing to explore for more information while the average user taking a quick look will likely leave.
Taking inspiration from other Fediverse platforms, my favourite landing pages are from Peertube and Mastodon:

This is likely a biased opinion, but could you add ‘region’ as a field, or ‘regional’ as a topic? For our instance, I think that’s how a lot of people are choosing to make an account with us given recent events. It also helps the user find an instance that is nearby (for lower latency), and within a jurisdiction that they are familiar with / can have an influence over through voting or other means. pangora.social seems to be down right now, but I recall them having a nice way of organizing that

Another biased opinion, I agree that it’s better to have large instances near the top since they’re more likely to be up / fixed quickly / on top of moderation. You could include a note saying that larger instances are near the top because of XYZ, and that people can always make more accounts down the road if you change your mind. That way there’s less pressure to pick the “correct” instance.

This is already the case since yesterday, there is a semirandom sort which always shows larger instances near the top and smaller ones further down.

Could you potentially collaborate with lemmyapps.com/ ? It would be easier for users to submit updates to one place (whether it is a PR to you or an update on that site)

With Peertube they have a good designer on board to make these graphics. We are all programmers, so its very difficult to make a good design without more concrete suggestions.

That does look good, though it also has some problems. Most instances are uncategorized, and country selection is by server IP so Germany also has pixelshot.it listed. Manually specifying countries would be more reliable (but also more effort).

Most of the texts use text-sm which is a bit hard to read. Better to use normal sizes.

User tagging using @, Community tagging using !: You could also emphasize that this works across instances. For example: "Tagging users and communities from any federated instance"
Integrated image uploading in both posts and comments.
i18n / internationalization support for > 30 languages
RSS / Atom feeds for All, Subscribed, Inbox, User, and Community.
By hosting your own server, you can be in full control of your content.

Some more feedback on the current version of the site:

It might be good to indicate that the instance in the first card is a random instance, and not an official or 'flagship' instance. That way, if it links to a poorly moderated / maintained instance, it doesn't reflect poorly on the project. My personal preference would be to have the Browse All Servers be the primary button, and then the join button be secondary. A refresh button might also work: "Refresh for a new randomly selected server"
Very minor, but some of the images are light mode while others are dark mode. It might look better if it was consistent

Not at all, I accidentally quoted the wrong text in my reply. I meant to reply to this bit: "Most instances are uncategorized, and country selection is by server IP so Germany also has pixelshot.it listed. Manually specifying countries would be more reliable (but also more effort)".

I was proposing having an automated system that uses the server IP (or another method), and then overriding it with any manually entered information from that file. That could be paired with an extra visual indicator or filter method to differentiate between the two.

Its not random from the whole list, but selected from a curated list (currently only lemmus.org and thelemmy.club, see #545). Its displayed like this because a lot of people complained that choosing an instance is too complicated.

We already have server location based on the IP shown on join-lemmy.org, and this can also be used for filtering. There are a few ideas to improve it further, most importantly Regional Instances for Quick Join.

I think the description starts off too technical - "link aggregator" is correct, but not a term that many people know about. "Selfhosted" might even be lost on most people.

Perhaps something more simple would help as a first introduction, there's plenty of opportunity for the more technical-minded to learn more. Maybe calling it a "network of content-sharing and discussion forums"? I'd love to put "decentralized" at the front, although I'm not sure how obvious that term is.

It should show the user an instance based on their IP, location, browser language etc. and perhaps the list of possible instances should be hardcoded.

Also it would be neat if instance admins could automatically set a certain set of "subscribed instances/communities" and "blocked instances/communities" for each new user that signs up on their instance. That would make it easier for instances to give themselves a certain "flavor" so users have an easier time finding interesting stuff.

How about the instance selection wizard (click “join a server” on the homepage), which lets you select topics and languages to select instances. Do the current options make sense?

I do think the "topic"/"language" selection screens make sense overall.

Also what i noticed is that on
join-lemmy.org/
when you select certain topics (like "Art/literature" and "german speaking"), then the resulting instance list is empty. It might be wise to show at least one instance for every search query, even if it's not 100% fit. For example, at least display one generic-topic instance for your language or one english-language instance for your topic.

Just be careful to not drive all traffic to only large instances, because then people who run smaller ones may not get enough users to keep doing it. How healthy will Lemmy be if everyone uses the same five instances?

Its already a bit of a problem with the large instances being so dominating.

I dont like to send people off to these proprietary platforms. Besides Lemmy mainly gets promoted by word of mouth (eg people recommending it on Reddit), not by reviews. If people want to review Lemmy communities, it would make more sense to make a Lemmy community for that purpose.

No data, its my impression from reading various related discussions on Lemmy. We also added a new signup question on lemmy.ml today, asking people how they found out about Lemmy. That should give us some more info.

On the new UI i'm not sure what is the difference between "country" and "language" (btw "Country" isn't translated in the french version, the translation would be "Pays"). What I can guess is that "country" is the country where the server are hosted, but I'm far from sure with the current wording (and I'm a technical person, most peoples would definitively not guess it). If that is the case, I would rename it with "hosted in" or something similar.

Concerning the language selection I also find it disturbing to not be able to select multiple language (in my case I speak both french and english, so I would want to select both but not "all language" as I don't speak german for example). If you allow multiple language selection then instances speaking both language should be displayed before the ones where they speak only one of the language (I don't know if instances with multiple language exists right now ? but we could imagine it in the future).

Good point, I renamed it to "hosted in" and also added a filter by continent ath the same time (github.com/LemmyNet/joinlemmy-…). Translations are contributed by people like you via Weblate, contributions welcome!

Multiple language selection would be both complicated to implement and also complicated to use. Not even joinmastodon.org has it. I would simply select the language which is less common, for French there is only a single instance.

В частности, компании используют иностранные CRM-системы для управления клиентскими данными, проектами, IT-службой и документооборотом, а также голосовых и текстовых роботов для автоматизации клиентских обращений, программное обеспечение для внутренних коммуникаций и т.д. При этом в исследовании не учитывались операционные системы. Треть опрошенных (32%) представителей компаний отметили, что зарубежные IT-решения применяются, поскольку на российском рынке нет аналогичного софта. Еще 16% заявили, что аналоги чересчур дорогие, а 12% признались, что ждут возвращения иностранных вендоров в Россию.
Оценка в 70% компаний, сохранивших зарубежное программное обеспечение, близка к действительности, отметил гендиректор «ИНКА 4.0» Павел Калякин. Президент США Дональд Трамп в среду вновь сказал, что Соединенным Штатам нужна Гренландия ⁠и что Дания не может обеспечить защиту острова, при этом добавив, что решение по поводу будущего управления ⁠этой датской территорией в итоге найдется.
Эти слова ⁠американского лидера, прозвучавшие после встречи министра иностранных дел Дании ⁠Ларса Лекке Расмуссена и его гренландской коллеги Вивиан Мотцфельдт с ‌госсекретарем США Марко Рубио и вице-‍президентом Джей Ди Вэнсаом в Белом доме, ‌указывают на то, что между Вашингтоном, Копенгагеном и Нуком всё ещё сохраняются фундаментальные разногласия относительно политического будущего острова. «Гренландия имеет важнейшее значение ⁠для национальной безопасности, в том ‍числе и Дании, - сказал Трамп журналистам в Овальном ‌кабинете. Фьючерсы на нефть марки Brent к 10:30 МСК ⁠снизились на 3,14% до $64,43 за баррель, марки WTI - ‌подешевели на 3,13% до $60,08 за ‍баррель.
Оба бенчмарка выросли более чем на 1% ‌накануне, но растеряли позиции после того, как высказывания Трампа снизили опасения по поводу возможной атаки США на Иран. В России потратили около 1 млрд руб. из федерального бюджета на разработку отечественного лекарства от импотенции, но так и не получили результата. Это следует из доклада Счетной палаты (СП), с которым ознакомились «Известия». По данным ведомства, проект, который вел Научный центр биомедицинских технологий Федерального медико-биологического агентства (ФМБА), получал финансирование с 2017 по 2025 год. Он был направлен на изучение природных свойств мускуса кабарги — секрета пахучей железы оленя — и создание новых препаратов на его основе, в частности, лекарств для коррекции эректильной дисфункции, повышения работоспособности, лечения черепно-мозговых травм и ишемического инсульта.
В рамках проекта предполагалось построить питомник для разведения и содержания кабарги в Горно-Алтайске, а также лабораторию в Красногорском районе Подмосковья. Изначально планировалось, что выпуск готовой продукции начнется в 2020 году, но сроки постоянно переносились. Так, питомник ввели в эксплуатацию только в июне 2024-го, а строительство лаборатории, где должны были разрабатывать лекарства, до сих пор не завершили. При этом препарат «Мускулив» для лечения импотенции разрабатывался с использованием сырья, закупленного на рынке, а не полученного в питомнике. В свою очередь клинические исследования проводились в частных медучреждениях вместо федеральных, говорится в докладе СП.
