The U.S. Senate passed a War Powers Resolution 52‑47 aimed at limiting Trump’s ability to conduct further military action against Venezuela without explicit Congressional approval. Five Republicans joined Democrats, reflecting bipartisan concern after the recent U.S. military raid in Caracas.

The Iraqi government nationalized the stake of Russia’s Lukoil in regards to the West Qurna-2 oil field, which accounts of around 75%. This oil field produces 460,000 barrels of oil, daily. Instead Iraq‘s oil industry invited US energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron to bid on the stake.
Iraq wants to avoid being targeted by US sanctions, throwing its former Russian business partner under the bus.

Russian forces launched three attack waves. Initial infantry groups were eliminated before reaching Ukrainian lines. Then came a covert attempt to infiltrate through a gas pipeline. Detected by reconnaissance, the group was destroyed.
A final combined assault using 10 ATVs and infantry was also thwarted, with all attackers neutralized.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says no EU member state or other country believes Western forces should intervene militarily in Ukraine. He stressed that discussions are focused on security guarantees to achieve peace and a ceasefire agreement.
Merz outlined the sequence needed: first a ceasefire, then security guarantees for Ukraine to reach a long‑term deal with Russia. He added that such a framework cannot work without Russia’s consent, and at present, “we are still quite far from that.”

Iraq is moving to nationalise operations at its massive West Qurna-2 oilfield after U.S. sanctions forced Russian oil giant Lukoil to declare force majeure. With Lukoil holding a 75% stake, Baghdad has tasked the state-run Basra Oil Company with taking over for the next 12 months, keeping output steady at around 465,000 to 480,000 barrels per day.
The move is aimed at avoiding supply disruptions while Iraq shops for new investors to replace the sanctioned Russian firm.
