'Slow Gods' by Claire North, fun space opera about religion, capitalism, the costs of war, neurodiversity.
'The Glass Slide World' by Carrie Vaughn, alternate history with magic, with a really great magic system based on biology. Also about spies, colonialism and war. I really loved the first in the sequence too (but they are pretty independent from each other).

3 December 1917 | A Polish photographer, Wilhelm Brasse, was born. On 31 August 1940, he was imprisoned at #Auschwitz, where he got number 3444.
He was employed in the photo studio, where he took photos for SS needs. He saved many of the original images from destruction.
Wilhelm Brasse passed away in 2012.

Wir kannten uns seit der Schulzeit, ich war sein Trauzeuge auf zwei seiner Hochzeiten - und irgendwann hatte ich den Eindruck, dass er immer mehr in die Verschwörungsszene reinrutschte (z.B. als er verbreitete, dass der Weihnachtsmarkt am Münchner Flughafen nun "Wintermarkt" heißen würde - weil man ja nicht mehr "Weihnachten" sagen dürfe). Und es häufte sich, so dass ich den Kontakt abebben ließ, da er für Argumente nicht offen war.
Dann fiel mir aber auf, dass er schon zu Schulzeiten gerne Bücher von Johannes von Buttlar oder Erich von Däniken gelesen hat. Er mochte die Kaiserzeit und verbreitete die Ansicht, dass die Deutschen in ihren Kolonien ja immer vorbildlich zu den Einwohnern gewesen seien, ...

Als ich im Rahmen einer Diskussion einmal erwähnte, dass gerade in den Großstädten die Leute weniger die rechten Parteien wählen würden, also dort, wo mehr Menschen mit ausländischen Wurzeln leben, meinte er, dass sich die Menschen nur nicht trauen würden, rechts zu wählen, weil sie von den vielen Menschen mit ausländischen Wurzeln eingeschüchtert und bedroht würden, wenn sie rechts wählen würden.
Er war auch total überrascht, als ich bei den Piraten aktiv wurde, da er der Ansicht gewesen war, dass ich ehe seinen politischen Ansichten anhängen würde. Im Gegenteil: Ich bin mir tatsächlich sehr treu geblieben. Schon zu Schulzeiten hatte ich in einer Klassenarbeit einmal geschrieben, dass alle Nationalstaaten aufgelöst werden sollten und jeglicher Nationalstolz zerschlagen gehöre - was mein Lehrer in der Klassenarbeit dann als "etwas extrem" anmerkte
