In which an economist realizes what most of us already knew, which is that treating the economic benchmarks established in the 1960s like some kind of founding fathers nonsense which is somehow eternally correct and inviolate is a ridiculous mistake.
And he still somehow doesn't reach the conclusion that the poverty line as a concept and the assertion that some percentage of Americans need to be struggling for the sake of the country's financial health is entirely arbitrary and only exits as a means of reinforcing white supremacy through economic policy.
That is, that some rich dudes decided in the early 1960s that the status quo at the time was the ideal to target for continued economic success without ever caring to consider precisely _who_ was struggling at the time or whether anyone should be struggling in the first place.

The suspect in the shooting near the White House, at the Farragut West Metro Station in Downtown Washington, D.C., has been identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal — an Afghan citizen who arrived in the United States in 2021.
He was wounded and detained immediately after the attack. The motive has not been officially announced.
