A case for organisations running their own ActivityPub servers

The internet has always been about standards, otherwise it simply would not work. The visibility of these for the average user has diminished as large platforms have monopolised activities on the web and run them with their own invisible data structures.

Now the internet is the main form of communication there is a growing acknowledgement that organisations pushing updates to the internet need to do it in an open and and ideally internationally standardised format that allows it to disseminate easily and widely.

An example of this is the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) that the NZ Metservice has implemented as a way of publishing their weather alerts, their reasons are well documented here but basically boil down to their reasons copied here:

A single message can deliver consistent hazard information to multiple systems or end points thus enhancing warning effectiveness
CAP alerts can be geographically targeted to a defined warning area
CAP is a rich format capable of including maps, images, video and audio for improved accessibility
CAP can also support multiple languages

Our local Council the Queenstown Lakes DIstrict Council (QLDC) is an example of an entity similar to the Metservice in that it has important information that needs to be published to a wide population all using different platforms and tools. For example:

Roading alerts
Local Emergencies
Swimming pool and Library service updates

The QLDC currently publishes these to Facebook and on their website which limits their easy dissemination to those two platforms and developers willing to write non-standard code to scrape the data into other systems.

This information could easily be published using the ActivityPub Protocol and set free for users to manage their own interactions with and developers to pull into their platforms in standard ways.

Should an entity run it’s own presence much like they run their own website or email?

A major question is if the QLDC should simply make accounts on an existing Fediverse server, like they have on Facebook, or should stand up their own server that they have complete control over. We contend that the latter is the appropriate solution:

Easily and cheaply segment information by running multiple accounts with recognisable handles:
– wanaka-pool@social.qldc.govt.nz
– queenstown-pool@social.qldc.govt.nz
– …
Aggregator handles could auto repost groups of handles i.e. wanaka@social.qldc.govt.nz would repost the pool, library, roading etc alerts in that area
Publishing can be done from a web app signed into multiple accounts or automated from existing systems with established code libraries
The software (i.e. gotosocial, snac) can be locked down to reduce security concerns
Posts can be edited and deleted and either welcome public comment or have it filtered or disabled

Possible disadvantages

Cost
While the upfront cost of Facebook is free its cost to society and reliability as a civic actor is not stable. To run a dedicated presence would cost $500 – $1500nzd a year which does not seem much for wrestling back control of dissemination and making it easier for constituents to access public information
Complexity
It is a new thing to learn for the people managing the publishing. But it is in a known format, people are used to Social Media, and once people are onboard they find it refreshingly simple. No boosting, ads, gatekeepers.

I think you should discuss this with the @swf@socialwebfoundation.org group.
The issue of standardization is one of the most delicate in the relationship between the fediverse and the mastosphere, and will likely be resolved in different ways based on the so-called "doocracy." It will be important for it to adhere as closely as possible to W3C standards and be conceived in simple terms.

Some platforms like Friendica have already solved the formatting of georeferencing and event data. (cc @heluecht@pirati.ca is right?)

It depends a lot on the type of organization.

A nonprofit organization could simply choose to be hosted by a federated social network in its own country. A public institution could do the same, but first consider opening a proprietary instance, since, depending on the institution's importance, the traffic flow could become problematic. A private company, on the other hand, has the obligation to create its own instance.

If I were to manage an organization's faith migration, I would make these assessments by evaluating the TOSs of the instances in my country and, if I found one suitable, I would agree on my inclusion in advance with the instance administrators.

I also remember that careful management of a federated WordPress or Ghost server is already an interesting solution, just as a federated NodeBB forum allows you to wonderfully control the moderation of your audience of interested users.

Here we must be realistic: using commercial social media for your organization's communication is NEVER perceived as a problem! It will be difficult to obtain the exact costs of managing a social media account, and the employees (or vendors) who manage an organization's social media account are resistant to change.

My advice is to find out in advance whether the organization already uses automated publishing systems, whether these systems include at least the Mastodon API, and whether these systems include engagement measurement systems; If they don't use automatic publishing, you can find a system that helps them manage everything more easily.

I may be unpopular, but an organization shouldn't be forced to do without commercial social media! Any organization's social media strategy should have three ethical obligations:

1) Maintain a presence on the most popular commercial social media platforms that are consistent with its audience, to ensure maximum reach.
2) Maintain a presence on an open-source social network that allows users to follow the organization and interact with it without being tracked, profiled, or having their data transferred to problematic countries, because this is a guarantee for its customers/users.
3) Prioritize communication on the open social network, publishing content on the federated account earlier and more carefully, and possibly attempting to move communication to the federated account.

Об этом сообщили мэр города Игорь Терехов и президент Украины Владимир Зеленский в своих телеграм-каналах. По последним данным, в результате удара пострадали 13 человек. Терехов рассказал о «значительных разрушениях» здания.

По словам главы региона Олега Синегубова, шестеро пострадавших госпитализированы, одна женщина находится в тяжелом состоянии. Удар пришелся на жилую пятиэтажку в Киевском районе Харькова. В результате в доме произошел пожар, и здание оказалось «полностью разрушенным». Также пострадали окна и фасады окрестных домов.

Зеленский добавил, что, согласно предварительным данным, удар был нанесен двумя ракетами.

«К сожалению, именно так россияне относятся к жизни и людям — продолжают убийства, и это несмотря на все усилия мира и прежде всего Соединенных Штатов в дипломатическом процессе. Только Россия не хочет завершения этой войны и каждый день делает все, чтобы война продолжалась», — написал украинский президент.

Many comrades know that one of my side projects, is recording audiobooks and putting them on youtube and torrents for all to listen.

Many times when I record a book, its the first-reading, so if it turns out to be a bad book, I can always stop recording, and move on to the next one. Usually this happens early on in the book, as its fairly easy to tell if an author has anything of value to add.

Based on ComradeHakim's recent book recommendation video, I decided to read something from an author I hadn't before, Torkil Lauesen's - The long transition towards socialism and the end of capitalism. PDF here

There were a few red flags early on in the book, that made me suspect that Lauesen was either a Trot or ultra-left (an idea

Many comrades know that one of my side projects, is recording audiobooks and putting them on youtube and torrents for all to listen.

There were a few red flags early on in the book, that made me suspect that Lauesen was either a Trot or ultra-left (an idealist definition of socialism, a claim that the USSR wasn't socialist), but it was difficult to discern, because the early part of the book was about early socialist history (the internationals), and didn't make too many firm judgements.

It took until about 40% of the book was done, probably 7+ hours of recording wasted, until Lauesen shows his ultraleft politics. Chapter 12 is where it really comes out (you can read it in the pdf linked above). Some of his points:

He denounces the USSR as not socialist, and abandoning Marxism in favor of building a "state bureacracy".
Denounces socialism in one country as abandoning internationalism.
Citing trotskyist writers like Deutscher to claim that Stalin was "authoritarian", and a "schemer", and ruthlessly eliminating/purging opponents.
Stalin is painted in the standard western caricature as a ruthless self-serving bureacrat who subverted socialism to build his own power.
Groups Lenin and Stalin as the "right-wing" of the bolsheviks while Trotsky represented the "left".
Claims the majority of peasants were allied to kulaks in opposing the USSR, industrialization, and collectivization.
Claims that a priviledged "class" of party leaders lived above the people and lost legitimacy. (Why does a socialist writer not know what class means?)
Has a weird interpretation of Lenin's state and revolution, where he thinks a critical point of the book is about abolishing standing armies in favor of a "people in arms", and the USSR not doing this was a "retreat" from socialism.
Worst of all, rather than defending the socialist character of the USSR, he repeats the claim of every purity-loving ultra-left, that defending the history of the USSR as a socialist state, damages the "brand" of socialism.

ComradeHakim clearly did not read this book, which is unfortunate since its explicitly in his recommendations.

TL;DR Don't always trust a comrade's book recommendations, and always check their views on the USSR and Stalin before diving in.

Recording audio is a lot of work. I'm sorry that happened and I appreciate that you do this. If I remember right, it was a recording of yours that got me through Blackshirts and Reds, and that's a pivotal one for humanizing the USSR and its history.

Un dodicenne non ha bisogno di uno smartphone, uno stupidofono per parlare coi genitori o inviare SMS agli amici basta e avanza.
'sto ragazzino ha la Switch 2 e l'Xbox. Non è già quello il problema? Volerlo lasciare tutto il giorno davanti a schermi senza dover intervenire in qualità di genitore?

@s1m0n4 non credo che tu abbia capito. Il bambino ha una switch e vuole giocare online con i suoi compagni di scuola a Minecraft che è un gioco Microsoft che richiede un account Xbox. Per settare i controlli parentali hai quindi i settaggi di Nintendo e quelli di Microsoft/Xbox, nessuno dei quali in realtà ti permette di limitare lo scaricamento di app e di limitare le comunicazioni ai soli compagni di scuola. È un problema reale che andrebbe affrontato seriamente.

@s1m0n4 di per sé non c'è niente di strano nel fatto che un bambino voglia giocare con i suoi coetanei allo stesso gioco. Un tempo lo si faceva in salotto, oggi si fa anche online, ma questo non mi disturba piû di quel tanto. I controlli parentali dovrebbero servire a "regolare" anche il tempo d'utilizzo di certe app oltre che limitare la cerchia di persone con cui puoi giocare. Il fatto poi che il bambino abbia già uno smartphone personale è un problema a parte.

Sui dispositivi Android il FamilyLink permette di configurare un limite di tempo per applicazione, oltre ad una fascia oraria giornaliera di utilizzo. I nostri figli non possono installare apps a meno che non lo autorizzi un genitore.

Abbiamo una switch 2, che però è di papà e ci giocano solo con il suo account.

Invece su Roblox giocano con il loro tablet. Papà si è creato un account per sorvegliarli e sanno che non devono rispondere a sconosciuti.

@Neffscape anche mio figlio di 11 anni gioca online a Brainrots coi suoi compagni.

A noi dicevano di non accettare caramelle dagli sconosciuti, quindi va insegnato, anche oggi, ai minori, che online non devono interagire con utenti che non conoscono.

Però il punto è che non si può pensare di dare un dispositivo a un bimbo e lasciarlo lì per ore senza sorveglianza.

E non possiamo neppure permetterci di dimenticare la spunta che limita l'account ai soli amici.

Le domande con cui chiudi il commento sono indicative: non hai letto l'articolo.

Il problema non è un ragazzino con switch e xbox, ma genitori che abbandonano i figli davanti ai dispositivi senza controllo (e l'articolo è chiaramente di un genitore che fa l'opposto).

Fare il genitore vuol dire scegliere.

0 (zero) - Puoi scegliere di far crescere tuo figlio negli anni 90. Chiudi tutto. Zero.

1 - Puoi scegliere di dargli uno smartphone, una console, un computer e tutto il resto senza controllare (l'opzione che dai per scontata per non so quale motivo). Uno. Liberi tutti.

Oppure puoi prendere atto che il mondo cambia e fare le cose prendendoti la responsabilità di controllare, scavare, capire e mettere paletti (che è ciò che fa l'autore dell'articolo).
Il problema è che anche chi vuole prendersi le sue responsabilità attivamente si scontra con la realtà che il parental control ha lo scopo di creare gli account per i consumatori di domani e non quello di aiutare i genitor

@pgo_lemmy leggi le mie risposte più sotto e poi dimmi ancora che non ho letto l'articolo, se è ciò che deduci.

Peccato che, sul fondo siamo d'accordo, però quest' abitudine di sparare sentenze senza neppure farti prendere da un'ombra di dubbio sulla persona con cui stai interagendo è davvero triste.

1) I 12enni non hanno bisogno di uno smartphone. Questo non significa che devono rimanere offline e vivere negli anni '90

2) A volte puoi anche prendere in considerazione un errore di giudizio

La domanda me la sono fatta e dalle poche righe che hai scritto ho trovato una risposta.

Non ho la pretesa che sia l'unica o quella giusta, ma rispondo argomentando meglio che posso per limitare al minimo i malintesi.

E rispondo qui proprio perché l'aspettativa è quella di trovare risposte nel merito e argomentate; l'account facebook giace abbandonato da tempo.

in parte l'articolo mi consola. Ho creduto seriamente di essere indementito mentre cercavo di configurare il parental control per il pargoletto di amici e, astruserie e ambiguità a parte, cresceva sempre di più in me la sensazione di intrusività eccessiva. Non solo del genitore nei confronti del figlio ma sopratutto da parte dell'azienda di family link ( sapete qual'è vero?) verso l'intero sistema familiare!!!

lui parla di Nintendo Switch, ma anche su PS5 è lo stesso dramma. Dalla mia esperienza, peggio di Minecraft c’e Rocket League. La necessità espressa di avere un “master switch” è davvero reale. Capisco perché il genitore medio meno avvezzo alla tecnologia rinunci ai controlli parentali e lasci tutto aperto.

per un bambino di 12 anni trovo tutto questo inappropriato. A quella età si DEVE educare non limitare.

Avesse avuto 6 anni allora ci stava tutto questo sbattimento ma a 12 anni non puoi tenerli all'oscuro del mondo che tanto se li prenderà.

Ricordo che appena ebbi accesso ad internet, era il lontano 2005 e non sapevo proprio che farci, per passare il tempo si girava sulle chat di IRC. La parola d'ordine era mai fidarsi degli sconosciuti, mai dai il nome o indirizzo.

I just completely vibecoded with exe.dev and Opus 4.5 a backoffice for our FIPS 140 validation, with a separate view for the lab (where they can also upload test vectors), public links for clients, guided scripts for testing, and APIs to upload test results to S3.

There’s folk wisdom in just about every culture that teaches about renewable energy — things like “make hay while the sun shines”. But as an industrial culture, we want to make hay 24/7 and not be at the whims of some capricious weather god! Alas, renewable energy puts a crimp in that. Once again, energy supplies are slowly becoming tied to the sun and the wind.

Since “Make compute while the wind blows” doesn’t have a great ring to it, clearly our civilization needs to come up with some grid-scale storage. Over in Sardinia they’re testing an idea that sounds like hot air, but isn’t — because the working gas is CO2.

The big white thing is is the CO2 exhaust bag.

The principle is simple: when power is available, carbon dioxide is compressed, cooled, and liquefied into pressure vessels as happens at millions of industrial facilities worldwide every day. When power is required, the compressed CO2 can be run through a turbine to generate sweet, sweet electricity. Since venting tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere is kind of the thing we’re trying to avoid with this whole rigmarole, the greenhouse gas slash working fluid is stored in a giant bag. It sits, waiting for the next charge cycle, like the world’s heaviest and saddest dirigible. In the test project in Sardinia — backed by Google, amongst others — the gas bag holds 2000 tonnes and can produce 20 megawatts of power for up-to 10 hours.

The scheme does require pressure vessels the size of buildings, which may make some nervous.
That’s not exactly astounding. It gets you through the night, but leaves you hanging if the next day is cloudy. But it’s scalable. The turbine is 20 megawatts, sure, but all you need is land to add extra energy capacity. The 200 MWh pilot plant is a five hectare facility, which is only about 12.3 acres, or roughly 1/10th the size of the Mall of America. It seems like increasing capacity would be fairly trivial; unlike, say, pumped hydro storage, no special topography is required. Ten hours of storage is also notably longer than the six to eight hours grid-scale battery farms usually aim for.

As of this writing, there’s only one of these plants in operation, but expect that to change rapidly. In 2026 the company behind the Sardinia project, Energy Dome, plans on putting in grid-scale storage based on its technology in India and Wisconsin, and that’s before Google gets into it. They’re hoping to roll this technology out at a number of data centers worldwide, though the exact details of the deal aren’t public.

We’ve talked about grid-scale energy storage before, using everything from liquid tin to electric car batteries and big piles of gravel. This methodology has a lot to recommend it over those others in comparison, and should worst come to worst, at least it won’t burn for days like certain batteries we could name. Releasing 2000 tonnes of CO2 might not be as benign as a failure from a liquid air battery, but storing liquid CO2 under pressure is a lot easier holding onto cryogenic air.

Having provided illustrations for the Foundation and Robot books, naturally I had a few ideas to explore for this assignment, which seemed more than fitting paying tribute to a man who never seemed lacking in inspiration. 3/4

How #Russia exposes… Russia’s own lies, episode 524. Yesterday, Russian media reported on an attack by Ukrainian drones on a café in Khorly in the occupied #Kherson region, where allegedly ‘24 civilians celebrating the New Year’ were killed.

The case was soon commented on by… Russian humanitarian volunteer Sania Denisova. And she knows what she is talking about, because for many months she has been appealing to Putin about the abuses of the Russian army… in that very Khorly.

According to her past publications, the town is 100% controlled by the army, which is looting the homes of residents, most of whom have been forced to leave. Those who remain are intimidated and stay at home. If anyone was celebrating in that café, it was certainly not civilians, Denisova concludes.

While organizing files I found this totally awesome tintype of my great- great- grandmother, Mary F. Figert! On the envelope it says she was 19yrs old in the photo. She was born in 1854 so the photo was made circa 1873. Mary passed away in 1926.

Mentre il settore dibatte su quale rete neurale sia la “più intelligente” e quale framework sia il “più moderno”, tecnologie vecchie di decenni continuano a turbinare silenziosamente sotto la superficie del settore bancario.

Quest’anno, COBOL ha compiuto 66 anni e continua a supportare attività mission-critical: elaborazione delle fatture, gestione delle reti bancomat, compensazione delle carte di credito e liquidazione batch notturna. Dove COBOL risiede, si trovano tipicamente anche i mainframe: in banche, compagnie assicurative, sistemi governativi e grandi sistemi di contabilità e magazzino.

Ciò ha portato a una semplice domanda: quali tecnologie funzioneranno probabilmente tra 50 anni e oltre, anche se tutto intorno a noi cambiasse più volte? È importante considerare che il Cobol è cambiato nel tempo: l’attuale standard COBOL 2023 assomiglia poco alle prime versioni del linguaggio che Grace Hopper ha contribuito a creare, e i mainframe moderni hanno fatto molta strada dai primi sistemi IBM 701 e IBM/360. Ma la continuità rimane; sono le implementazioni a cambiare, non il percorso di sviluppo in sé.

Tra i linguaggi di programmazione, il C, che ha più di mezzo secolo, è un candidato promettente per la longevità. Pur avendo i suoi problemi di sicurezza , rimane estremamente valido in termini di velocità e versatilità: il C può essere utilizzato praticamente su qualsiasi architettura e in qualsiasi attività di basso livello.

Mentre si parla di Rust che sta gradualmente sostituendo il C nella programmazione di sistema, vale la pena ricordare che Rust è già arrivato su Linux, ma i principali punti di forza del C – velocità e portabilità – non sono scomparsi.

Un altro pilastro “indistruttibile” è SQL. È integrato in tutti i principali DBMS relazionali, accumulando enormi quantità di logica di business, stored procedure e query, rendendo praticamente impossibile sostituirli tutti in una volta. JavaScript e TypeScript sono una storia simile: sono spesso criticati e derisi, ma la piattaforma web si basa sulla compatibilità, il che significa che il linguaggio del browser rimarrà rilevante finché il web stesso sopravviverà.

Un livello separato di tecnologie longeve è associato non ai linguaggi, ma agli ecosistemi. Linux esisterà ancora nel 2100 e Git rimarrà lo strumento di sviluppo di base per molto tempo a venire. Sorprendentemente, accanto a loro ci sono gli editor “eterni” vi ed Emacs, così come Bash, che ha superato molti concorrenti e, per inerzia, continua a essere lo strumento standard in molti scenari.

Tra le soluzioni infrastrutturali più recenti, ma già consolidate, vale la pena sottolineare Kubernetes . Ha ricevuto la sua giusta dose di critiche, ma oggi è lo standard de facto per l’orchestrazione dei container cloud e il fondamento dell’approccio “cloud-native”, quindi l’inerzia del mercato è dalla sua parte. Nel mondo applicativo, Photoshop ha alte probabilità di rimanere valido: anche con alternative, l’ecosistema e le abitudini dei professionisti spesso prevalgono sulle argomentazioni ideologiche.

La parte più dolorosa del dibattito riguarda i formati di file. Una volta che un formato diventa uno standard industriale, persiste per anni e decenni, anche se esiste un sostituto più aperto e pratico. Esempi includono DOC e DOCX, che hanno soppiantato approcci più aperti, e PDF , apprezzato per il suo aspetto coerente dei documenti “ovunque e sempre”, ma che in pratica si scontra con una moltitudine di varianti e incompatibilità. Un esempio significativo proviene dall’industria musicale: dopo che un popolare standard di notazione proprietario è stato di fatto abbandonato, gli utenti hanno scoperto che migrare il lavoro accumulato verso altre soluzioni era estremamente difficile, e a volte impossibile, senza perdite.

La conclusione finale è semplice: gli standard aperti e il software open source hanno maggiori probabilità di sopravvivere per decenni, mentre le tecnologie legate a una singola azienda sono intrinsecamente fragili, anche se oggi sembrano “troppo grandi per fallire”.

Quando si parla della funzione del DPO è possibile escludere la possibilità di fare gioco di squadra, celebrando una sorte di one-person-band. Quando invece ci si trova a dover esercitare in modo sensato la funzione, allora è necessario ragionare su come fare gioco di squadra. Al di là dell’ovvia ricerca di sinergie con le ulteriori funzioni esterne o interne dell’organizzazione, è fondamentale infatti che venga garantita la capacità di svolgere i compiti attribuiti dall’art. 39 GDPR e, soprattutto, garantire la continuità della sorveglianza. Questo può comportare o lo stanziamento di risorse adeguato per coinvolgere altri professionisti o garantire alcuni collaboratori, o altrimenti la formazione di un team DPO.

Mentre il primo caso rientra nell’ambito dell’adeguatezza dello stanziamento di risorse che l’organizzazione deve fornire a supporto del DPO ai sensi dell’art. 38 par. 2 GDPR, nel secondo caso è invece chi si propone come DPO a dover fornire le evidenze necessarie a dimostrare la capacità di assolvere i propri compiti, come previsto dall’art. 37 par. 5 GDPR. Ovviamente, in entrambi i casi la responsabilità di adempiere agli obblighi previsti dal GDPR è e resta in capo all’organizzazione che deve comunque essere in grado di garantire l’effettività della funzione a partire dalla selezione e per tutto lo svolgimento dell’incarico.

Mentre la dotazione di risorse in termini di collaboratori a supporto del DPO è rimesso alla capacità dell’organizzazione di rispettare il GDPR e alla libertà di cui al principio di accountability, la formazione e conduzione del team DPO incontra necessariamente le regole proprie della funzione che vanno riferite più ad un “Office” che ad un singolo “Officer”.

Best practices per il team DPO.

La formazione del team DPO è presa in considerazione all’interno delle linee guida WP243 sui responsabili della protezione dei dati, indicando delle buone pratiche sia per favorire un’organizzazione trasparente e corretta sia per prevenire conflitti d’interesse. Ad esempio, è necessario non solo che ciascun componente del team possieda i requisiti per ricoprire l’incarico, ma che goda anche delle tutele previste dal GDPR fra cui principalmente quella dell’indipendenza funzionale prevista dall’art. 38 par. 3 GDPR.

Sul piano organizzativo, la ripartizione interna dei compiti è funzionale non solo per garantire l’efficienza del servizio ma anche per individuare un unico soggetto che faccia da referente per i vertici dell’organizzazione. Motivo per cui diventa opportuno dettagliare questo ambito all’interno del contratto di servizi (se esterno) o altrimenti nella descrizione del funzionamento dell’ufficio (se interno).

Quando il gioco di squadra è trasversale.

Ultimo ma non meno importante è l’aspetto invece del gioco di squadra fra DPO di diverse organizzazioni, il più delle volte nel rapporto titolare-responsabile (ma anche: fra contitolari, o titolari differenti). Poiché ciascun DPO svolge i propri compiti secondo un approccio risk-based nei confronti degli interessati, e gli interessati sono il comune denominatore dei trattamenti svolti fra questi soggetti differenti, è quanto mai opportuno – e invero, il più delle volte dimenticato – che si cooperi professionalmente in quanto si perseguono obiettivi se non proprio comuni quanto meno non divergenti: la garanzia della protezione dei dati personali degli interessati.

Questo comporta che nelle qualità personali espresse dallo svolgimento dei compiti sia riscontrabile anche quello spirito di leale collaborazione che invoca integrità e standard deontologici nel contribuire a dare efficace attuazione ai principi del GDPR e ai diritti degli interessati.

Du findest dort Leute, die hier nicht vertreten sind - und umgekehrt. Das eine ist kein Ersatz für das andere, finde ich. Insgesamt finde ich die Atmosphäre dort auch recht entspannt. Und die Feeds von Bluesky sind eine gute Möglichkeit Beiträge zu bestimmten Themen zu erhalten. Das geht weit über die Möglichkeit hinaus, Hashtags zu abonnieren.

Allerdings gibt es keine Privatsphäre. Alle Daten sind öffentlich, d.h. Du kannst z.B. sehen wer Dich blockt und jeder kann sehen, wen Du blockst.

So as every year since 2018, my Alexa meme-skill got its moment of glory last night.

When Alexa launched in Italy, Amazon opened a contest for devs where if you wrote and published a Skill in their store they gifted you a brand new Echo.

Of course I wanted my free Echo so I thought of the simplest Skill I could imagine, a countdown. It's an Italian-only Skill and basically you ask Alexa to count from {number} and it goes from there to "...three...two...one..." and then a randomly chosen sound from their library.

I got my Echo, I was satisfied, and a couple of months later I got an email from Amazon because my Skill reached a minimum target usage, so they gifted me a bigger Echo. Apparently, a handful of people were really using my Skill to count down to New Year's Eve 😄

And so, from that moment on, every year in Italy there is someone who asks Alexa for a countdown to midnight and toasts to the sound of trumpets or stadium cheers, unaware that they are actually toasting with me.

And I toast with them, since they helped me win a free Echo

Pensa come un attaccante, agisci come un difensore

La base della sicurezza informatica, al di là di norme e tecnologie, ha sempre un unico obiettivo: fermare gli attacchi dei criminali informatici.

Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, è fondamentale conoscere il modo in cui gli hacker operano. Ed è proprio questo il “life motive” di questo corso: Pensa come un attaccante, agisci come un difensore. Solo comprendendo come i criminali informatici sfruttano i sistemi è possibile definire strategie coerenti ed efficaci per ostacolarli.

Non basta più conoscere la teoria. Per proteggere davvero un’infrastruttura digitale, occorre capire a fondo il comportamento degli aggressori che sono di fatto dei “tecnici”. Ogni vulnerabilità, ogni configurazione errata, ogni falla può diventare un punto di ingresso per un attacco. La capacità di anticipare le mosse di un hacker criminali e trasformare questa conoscenza in strategie difensive rappresenta oggi un vantaggio competitivo decisivo per le aziende.

Cosa tratterà il corso

Il corso offre un percorso completo che parte dalle basi e arriva alle tecniche operative utilizzate quotidianamente nelle tecniche di penetration test ed ethical hacking. Tra gli argomenti principali:

Networking: modello OSI, indirizzamento IP, subnetting, protocolli fondamentali, analisi del traffico e sniffing controllato.
Laboratori pratici: installazione di ambienti virtuali, Kali Linux, Metasploitable, Windows 10/11, configurazioni di rete isolate.
Recon & OSINT: raccolta informazioni pubbliche, scansioni di rete, fingerprinting, attività di enumeration, utilizzo avanzato di Nmap, Nessus e analisi CVE/CVSS.
Malware education: reverse shell, backdoor, persistenza, evasione e tecniche di rilevamento.
Exploitation: attacchi controllati tramite exploit pubblici, Metasploit, payload e metodologie reali.
Post-Exploitation: privilege escalation, movimento laterale, persistenza, password cracking, strumenti come LinPEAS e WinPEAS.
WebApp Security: SQLi, XSS, RCE, traversal, testing con Burp Suite, esercitazioni su DVWA.
Active Directory: architettura, autenticazioni, vettori d’attacco, strumenti professionali (BloodHound, nxc, Responder, Impacket).

Alla fine del percorso, i partecipanti affineranno la propria autonomia operativa, riuscendo a condurre un penetration test completo e documentato, dalla ricognizione iniziale alla post-exploitation.

A guidare i partecipanti in questo percorso tecnico ci sarà un professionista e docente che collabora con Red Hot Cyber da diverso tempo: Alessio Lauro. Si tratta di un ethical hacker specializzato da anni in penetration testing, sicurezza delle reti e analisi delle vulnerabilità. Difficoltà del corso

Il corso è di livello base, ma con una forte impronta operativa: non richiede competenze avanzate, ma è indispensabile avere:

capacità di navigazione Internet,
conoscenze minime di sicurezza informatica,
familiarità con il computer e con i sistemi operativi.

È adatto sia a chi vuole entrare in ambito cybersecurity, sia a chi già lavora nel settore IT e desidera acquisire competenze offensive aggiornate. Il concetto sul quale si basa questo corso è semplice ma al tempo stesso a nostro avviso fondamentale: devi conoscere come operano tecnicamente gli avversari se vuoi poter difendere con efficacia una organizzazione.

Ingresso nel mondo del lavoro

Questa Live Class rappresenta un vero punto di accesso al mondo della sicurezza informatica offensiva e all’arte del penetration testing.

Pur essendo un corso base, permette di:

costruire solide fondamenta tecniche,
comprendere le logiche operative di un penetration test,
utilizzare i principali strumenti professionali,
familiarizzare con le tipologie reali di attacco e difesa,
sviluppare un mindset da penetration tester.

Questo tipo di mestiere non conosce una meta e questo ricordatelo sempre.

Infatti, come spesso riportiamo, l‘”hacking è un percorso e non un destinazione”, ma il corso pone solide basi concrete per avviare una carriera nel settore, permettendo al discente di avviare un percorso in questo mondo altamente tecnologico.

Una volta completato il corso, sarà possibile per i partecipanti entrare a far parte di HackerHood Academy, un contesto strettamente legato al nostro collettivo di hacker etici noto come HackerHood. - Russians gained around 4,075 square kilometer (1,573 square miles) over this period of time. This is around 0.67% of Ukraine's total size.

- Ukraine holds 79.4% of its territory.

- The Russian occupation holds around 19.4% of Ukrainian territory.

- Around 1.2% are grey zone / not clearly under control by either side.
