I found while scouring the manual for my fridge, looking for the magical keypress to reset the water filter indicator¹, that it has a Sabbath mode.
You enable the mode on a Friday afternoon with a series of keypresses that hopefully no gentile ever accidentally engages.
During Sabbath mode, the fridge continues to operate, but the light doesn’t come on when you pull the door open. The door-left-ajar alarm doesn’t sound. The compressor no longer cares if the door is opened and happily chugs along to its own schedule. If there a blackout then the fridge comes back on in Sabbath mode.
Saturday after sunset you press a button to return your fridge to normal operation.
This is so cool! I love the attention to detail. But then I remind myself that this is the same fridge that has a race condition on the light that the water dispenser operates, so I wonder how well the feature has been tested.

Immaginiamo una metropolitana notturna in cui le richieste sono vagoni che scorrono uno dopo l’altro. Il front end fa da bigliettaio e smista i vagoni, il back end è il deposito che li riceve e li lavora.
Se il bigliettaio e il deposito non sono d’accordo su dove finisce un vagone e inizia quello successivo, si apre una fessura che qualcuno può sfruttare per infilare un vagone nascosto. Quel vagone nascosto è il contrabbando di richieste HTTP.

There functionally is no different between selling a widget and selling a job.
If its a lie, faked, or similar defrauding behavior, it should fall under the same laws.

in reply to Jerry 🦙💝🦙 • • •My experience: one past Mgr posted jobs asking for criteria such as a certain degree that didn't exist or 5 years experience with some new tech. Then filling from within...that vacancy went unfilled regardless of crew workload and the Mgr rcvd a big bonus for being under budget.
The ghost jobs I've seen were spots held open for politicians to keep them above water until they got re-elected. Other places simply keep an open application process to generate a list of qualified applicants.
