Playing YouTube From The Command Line
Generally, one opens a web browser or an app to use YouTube. However, if youโre looking to just listen to the audio, you can actually do that right from the terminal. You just need Shellbeats from [lalo-space].
Shellbeats is primarily intended for playing music from YouTube, and is well equipped for this task. It allows searching YouTube directly from the terminal, as well as streaming tracks or entire playlists from the command line interface. You can also make and edit playlists from within the tool, and even download the whole lot as MP3s if so desired. Itโs all keyboard-operated and nicely lightweight. The overall experience isnโt dissimilar from operating a simple LCD-based MP3 player from 20 years ago.

A very nice first day at FOSDEM. I spent time at the @matrix booth and met overwhelmingly enthusiastic people, then left it to our fabulous team of volunteers.
Iโve met Allan and @jsparber at the @gnome booth, got one of those fabulous systemd T-shirts, said hi to the @postmarketOS gang, got a T-shirt and brainstormed with @pabloyoyoista, got to thank Proxmox and OpenTofu for the great tools they provide.

It's been a really good day here at #FOSDEM and has been well worth the trip. Tomorrow I've got a few less talks and looking forward to a lot of mooching and catching up with folks.
I ended up spending later half of the afternoon in the social Web dev room and got to listen in on some talks I wasn't expecting, whole thing has been really good and I look forward to getting stuck in looking at a whole load of projects I either had been meaning to look at or had never come across before today.
Excited for tomorrow and it's great getting to spend the evening with some folks I've met today enjoying some pizza!
