Look inside a science fiction computer, and you’ll probably see tubes and cubes that emit light. Of course, it’s for effect, but the truth is, people do think light computing may be the final frontier of classical computing power. Engineers at the University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute and the University of Wisconsin-Madison are showing off a workable photonic latch — a memory element that uses light.
The device uses a commercial process (GlobalFoundries (GF) Fotonix Silicon Photonics platform) and, like a DRAM, regenerates periodically to prevent loss of the memory contents.
On the device, you’ll find a combination of tiny photodiodes, micro-ring resonators, and optical waveguides. Simulations show the memory element can operate at 20 GHz and might even be readable at 50 or 60 GHz.

Aggiungerei che la cosa che importa è il flusso di energia, nel senso che un sistema che fa lavoro o computazione deve essere tra due bagni termici a temperature diverse, uno da cui assorbe energia, un altro che usa per raffreddarsi. Altrimenti si avrebbe quello che chiamano un perpetuum mobile del secondo tipo.
Non sono un esperto, ma da quello che leggo, mi pare che nello spazio sia difficile ricreare questa situazione sulla scala di tempi che un data center richiederebbe. Tenderebbe a diventare presto una scatola tutta in equilibrio termico.
Credo che il problema stia anche (e forse, soprattutto) nelle scale di tempi dei vari processi termici.

Getting 400 Bad Request when reaching the end of my feed
Usually when I reach the end of the feed, it just loads more. But recently, I started getting a bad request error instead. Not every time I reach the end, but once I get it it doesn't go away when I tap on retry.
Is anyone else seeing this happening? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
This is a DB attack vector, which is why lemmy long ago switched to cursor pagination.
You need to open up an issue in the summit repo asking the dev to switch away from the deprecated page/limit, and to cursor pagination.

Ich glaube da geht es mehr um "Welche Laus ist welchen Admin gerade über die Leber gelaufen?" als den Versuch, ernsthaft über Relevanz zu diskutieren und zu entscheiden.
Die Relevanzdiskussion zeigt dann schnell, wie laute Anti-Akademiker und VTs die Diskussionen dominieren wollen, was der Idee einer Enzyklopedie zuwiderläuft.
