I spent today mentoring a group of our junior engineers, something I love doing, but it was strange. I was a decade older (2 decades in one case) than anyone in the group. I had a weird feeling of displacement, inhabiting a role that, in my mind, has always belonged to other people.
Technical leadership isn't new to me. I'm used to sharing knowledge. But the pronounced age gap added a different energy, that gives me pause.

New Ukraineโs Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Ukrainian forces aim to kill 50,000 Russian soldiers a months. Last month, Russia lost 35,000 troops, while negligibly moving forward.

The Ukrainian SBU released a video, showing multiple strikes against the Taman oil terminal at the Russian Black Sea coast from last night.

@Robert Brandt (dragoner) I don't read science-fiction much these days but I do enjoy the hard science fiction approach. However, after surfacing the original website, I'm very doubtful this infographic was created in that wholesome context. Hard science-fiction still is science-fiction, and I'm weary of anyone who's trying to exploit its cool factor to sell investments opportunities that do not exist in real life, for exacting reasons I now know you know about.
It also doesn't help that these mirages are currently being peddled by the richest and most ethically questionable people in the world and this definitely contributed to my original knee-jerk reaction.

I've never used Claude or GH CoPilot or LightLLM or whatever, and don't have any interest in them. I don't see any future in the industry at all, for anyone really. I try to keep my mouth shut at work to not spread my cynicism too much.
Everything that kept me inspired and interested in tech is long gone now.
