Davvero crediamo ancora che un limite ai caratteri di un toot possa avere una qualche utilità? Non postiamo più via sms non c'è una ragione tecnicamente ragionevole per limitare i caratteri, quindi perché?
Chi vuole scrivere pipponi lo fa comunque, ha giusto da mettere un ">" e scrivere un altro toot, con la differenza che un singolo toot lungo si può ignorare ed è "denso" come rendering, mentre spezzettato in dodici toot corti, ognuno col suo header, intestazione, barra delle azioni eccetera, intasa graficamente la pagina.
Magari mi sta sfuggendo qualcosa, ma davvero non trovo ragioni sensate
può costringere a mettere in ordine i pensieri prima di scrivere ed esercitare la capacità di sintesi.
Anche se fai un papiello di 15 post, magari ci pensi a come creare piccoli pensieri di senso compiuto in modo che ogni post possa essere un paragrafo a sè.

1. While almost all the HTTP traffic nowadays is indeed encrypted (I like to think in some measure due also to my NoScript code reused in HTTPSEverywhere), virtual host negotiation will still give away the domain names you're connecting to (and so will DNS, unless you use DoH) unencrypted.
2. Yes, all VPN must comply with legal requirements, but they cannot provide your data to authorities (or criminals, in case of a breach) if they don't have any: @mullvadnet , for instance, spins a VM for every client access, all volatile (in RAM) and destroys it after use. Of course, you still need to trust them to do what they say, and that's why you may prefer Tor.
3. You correctly mention the @torproject browser and Tails (thank you!), but when it comes to privacy-preserving browsers you forgot the Mullvad Browser, which is basically the Tor Browser optimized for VPNs rather than Tor, made by the Tor Project itself (full disclosure: I work in the devs team).

Yep, the article was meant more as a response to the wave of commercial VPNs that popped up like a fashion trend over the last few years, and that many people buy without really understanding why. But achieving a truly “full privacy” setup still requires a few more steps, and of course it’s not for everyone.
