During the McCarthy era, my dad — a University of Michigan professor — was asked by the FBI to name communists or other subversives at the University. He refused. He told us they came several times to his office to pressure him, even threatening him with being called before the Committee (a career-ending event everyone feared). He refused every time. Today marks my first day as an empty nester.
Youngest turned 18 and he’s gotta go figure it out now.
My wife told our 21-year old daughter who interrupted her studies:
- you either find a job, or leave our home
I was very surprised :) But she found a job in her area of studies (archeology) and really grew a lot during that year!
One year later she _did_ leave our home to continue her studies elsewhere. And now we're all sad she left :)
in my 18s son birthday he blew the candles and then I said.. "so... at what time are you leaving then?"
Of course was a joke... or was it? :D
I'm slowly starting to share more images from my multi-year project "This Land Remembers", an odyssey into the last remaining ancient native woodlands of Scotland (like this one from a brilliant Autumn morning in 2025). Mornings like this I dream that I could afford private healthcare and new sleep tests so I could access Xyvaw and stop dreaming with it. It would be bliss not to wake up feeling like I just lived a lifetime in my dreams...or worse, in my equally vivid nightmares that burn the worst images into my brain....with sound, feel, AND SMELL.
Today I had horrific nightmare around 4-5am and could not sleep after it almost at all.
Today will be rough as fuck.
