This way we could replace the permalink with the ID of a post or an author, to work agains the Username and Permalink issue. Maybe fixes the caching issues in WordPress!?!

La cosa che però forse solo pochi fanno è voltare il piatto sottosopra, leggere il marchio di fabbrica e cercare di saperne qualcosa di più. OK, le produzioni ceramiche di massa del XX secolo non saranno particolarmente eccitanti, ma credo che proprio questa loro diffusione le renda degne almeno di uno sguardo.

Quindi? A quando risalgono i piatti da frutta con il bordo arancione? Sono un cimelio o una banalità? A quante generazioni sono sopravvissuti?

Società Ceramica Italiana di Laveno

Il marchio di fabbrica rimanda esplicitamente alla Società Ceramica Italiana di Laveno (VA).

La Società Ceramica Italiana di Laveno, fondata nel 1856, va incontro alla fusione con la Richard-Ginori nel 1965, e per questo motivo si trovano alcune informazioni sulla sua storia sul sito web del Museo di Doccia. Altre informazioni storiche sono pubblicate da Roberto Conti nel suo Archivio della Ceramica Italiana del ‘900 (ripreso, purtroppo senza nessuna aggiunta, dal blog Il Piatto Antico). I punti salienti sono:

viene fondata nel 1856, da parte di ex-dipendenti della società Richard;
nel 1883 assume la denominazione di Società Ceramica Italiana (S.C.I.);
negli anni 1920 e 1930 sotto la direzione artistica di Guido Andlovitz eccelle nella produzione di servizi da tavola;
nel 1956 entra a far parte del gruppo Richard-Ginori;
nel 1965 avviene la definitiva fusione.

Questa cronistoria è di per sé sufficiente a collocare entro il 1965 la produzione dei nostri piatti da frutta. Infatti, sulla stessa pagina web del Museo di Doccia indicata sopra, è evidente che dopo la fusione lo stabilimento di Laveno continuò a produrre ceramiche, ma con il marchio Richard Ginori.

Il terminus post quem è il 1883, ma sembra a prima vista un po’ troppo indietro.

Raccolta punti si o no?

Proseguiamo l’indagine con la raccolta punti. Si tratta di un argomento su cui non è facile reperire informazioni storiche in rete, anche a causa della promiscuità dell’argomento con le raccolte attuali. In Italia la diffusione di massa avviene negli anni 1950 con le celebri raccolte Mira Lanza, anche se non va dimenticata la raccolta Buitoni-Perugina degli anni 1930 (centrata sulle figurine). Non esplicitamente, ma questo documento descrive per sommi capi alcuni aspetti del fenomeno. Tra i premi della raccolta Buitoni-Perugina (anni 1930) figura anche “un servizio da tè o caffè per 12 persone”: non sembra essere il nostro caso, ma ci si avvicina. Senza un elenco di possibili raccolte, e senza una indicazione cronologica anche generica, è difficile stabilire questo aspetto.

Marchi di fabbrica

Nonostante i piatti siano solo 7, ci sono due gruppi con rispettivi marchi di fabbrica. La forma del marchio è la stessa, un’aquila sormontante un cartiglio. In un caso in la scritta recita Società Ceramica Italiana – Laveno mentre nell’altro al centro si legge Verbanum Stone e intorno Società Ceramica Italiana – SCI – Laveno.

Perché due marchi diversi se i piatti sono uguali tra loro? Una cronologia dei marchi della Società Ceramica Italiana aiuterebbe a capirlo, ma non sono riuscito a trovarne una. Le ipotesi sul piatto sono due:

i marchi sono relativi a due diversi stabilimenti;
i marchi sono relativi a periodi diversi.

Per inciso, queste sono le due classiche alternative dello studio delle produzioni ceramiche in archeologia: variazione nello spazio o nel tempo.

Vediamo cosa è possibile stabilire su questi marchi basandosi sulle risorse disponibili in rete (il volume Laveno e le sue ceramiche: oltre un secolo di storia non è facilmente reperibile, anche se si trova in alcune biblioteche pubbliche). Verbanum Stone sembra più semplice da cercare, perché non corrisponde al nome della società, quindi inizieremo da quello.

Il catalogo LombardiaBeniCulturali contiene una collezione di 516 oggetti prodotti dalla Società Ceramica Italiana, quasi tutti conservati nel museo di Laveno. Questo marchio propagandistico contiene la dicitura Verbanum Stone ed è datato tra il 1900 e il 1924. Ne esiste uno precedente, di stile molto diverso. Il tipo con aquila e cartiglio però non è molto significativo dal punto di vista cronologico perché è rimasto in uso anche dopo la fusione con Richard-Ginori, come si vede nella pagina già citata sopra del Museo di Doccia. Il marchio Verbanum è presente anche su alcune tazze e un piatto nella collezione del Berghof di Adolf Hitler, parte di un servizio donatogli da Benito Mussolini. Una versione finemente dettagliata del marchio fa la sua comparsa su questo piatto nella collezione della Wolfsonian–Florida International University.

La cronologia dei marchi di fabbrica rimane difficile da stabilire con certezza.

Poiché le schede di catalogo di LombardiaBeniCulturali contengono, nella versione dettagliata, sia la datazione sia la descrizione del marchio di fabbrica (dove presente), ho pensato che uno spoglio delle schede di catalogo potesse dare qualche indicazione. L’inizio è stato promettente, perché ha indicato che il marchio Verbanum Stone non va oltre gli anni 1930, ma ho voluto avere il conforto dei grandi numeri e controllare tutte le schede di catalogo. E il risultato è stato migliore del previsto.

Ho trovato 128 schede su 516 che attestano la presenza del marchio “VERBANUM STONE”, ma alcune riportano anche questa spiegazione completa:

La presenza della marca in verde con aquila ad ali spiegate e la scritta VERBANUM STONE indica una datazione entro il primo quarto del Novecento, considerato che intorno al 1925 Guido Andlovitz fece sostituire tale marca con quella con la scritta Lavenia.

Ecco dunque una indicazione cronologica sicura, anche se non abbiamo ancora capito il rapporto con il secondo marchio, la cui presenza su piatti del tutto uguali potrebbe indicare l’utilizzo di più marchi in contemporanea, magari in stabilimenti diversi, oppure la produzione continuata di un servizio molto semplice anche dopo il cambio del marchio.

Il tipo del piatto è molto semplice, e comprensibilmente non fa parte del catalogo LombardiaBeniCulturali, ma potrebbe essere un sottoprodotto molto elementare di questo servizio decorato da Piero Portaluppi negli anni 1920. C’è una denominazione precisa sulle forme dei piatti e dei servizi, ma non sono riuscito a trovarne una che corrisponda ai nostri piatti.

Conclusione

Sembra che in fondo i piatti fossero veramente di una mia bisnonna, e che abbiano ormai almeno 90 anni. Un bel traguardo per questi superstiti di un servizio da tavola più numeroso.

Non è l’età anagrafica a rendere questi piatti interessanti ‒ e ci sono certamente cose più vecchie, in grado di raccontare una storia più intima di questa ‒ ma credo che dovremmo praticare un po’ più spesso queste “spigolature” sulla cultura materiale dell’altroieri: ho imparato qualcosa di nuovo sulla storia di una industria italiana, sul suo funzionamento e ho scritto una piccola storia su sette piccoli piatti che continueranno a stare nella credenza con gli altri, ma da oggi sono un po’ più interessanti.

Oh I haven't seen that one. The roughly 50/50 split does seem about right to me though because it's what we saw in the past two elections as well. Basically, the the mainstream in the country is split into two camps at this point. Most people either buy into the republican or the democrat narrative. And it's a whole ideology at this point, so people aren't voting on particular issues or promises that parties makes. It's about which vision of US people subscribe to, and that's becoming more polarized over time.

Mozilla ha segnalato violazioni come la mancanza di consenso per la raccolta di dati, codice minificato e assenza di una politica sulla privacy. Hill ha smentito queste affermazioni, affermando che l'add-on non raccoglie dati e include un link alla politica sulla privacy. Political education in the US and many of the countries that hold these polls is awful. I'd trust a middle-schooler from Cuba, Vietnam, or China more than an ivy-league-educated polysci graduate when it comes to political awareness.

Transphobia in the fediverse

I've only been on Lemmy a few days and I've already witnessed a lot of thinly veiled transphobia, anything from people dismissing the existence of trans people, to trying to claim we are predators. I've also seen people downvoted in the general communities for expressing trans support, or seemingly for no reason other than simply being openly trans or visibly queer. I know it's an ongoing effort to moderate transphobia on Lemmy, and the fediverse as a whole. We have to also address mentions of thinly veiled transphobia and transphobic users. Transphobia isn't just a differing opinion, it is a dangerous hateful sentiment which causes harm to vulnerable people and it needs to be addressed, at the instance and community level. We need to put in the effort to identify transphobic dogwhistles and language used by transphobes to eradicate this type of behavior from our communities and servers alike.

Matthias started using WordPress in its early stages when it was still known as b2. He became passionate about blogging and the web 2.0 era. Darius Kazemi (@darius@friend.camp) reports that Hometown already supports improved conversion of non-note items (like as:Article) into statuses, and that this serves as a working proof-of-concept towards getting this merged upstream into Mastodon proper.
We discussed briefly the Mastodon PR approval process and how it sometimes drives away contributions
- Darius emphasized the importance of showing real user support to facilitate the merging of pull requests.

this reinforces a suspicion that I've had for a while: the only reason most people put up with any of this shit is because it's an all or nothing choice and they don't know the full impact (because it's intentionally obscured). the moment you give them an overt choice that makes them think about it, turns out most are actually not fine with the state of affairs

Reminder: il phishing arriva anche per PEC

Segnalato abuso a aruba, dice che magari non è effettivamente phishing e che magari è effettivamente legittima... (il link scarica un file js contenente sicuramente malware da indirizzi ip residenziali, mentre dice 404 not found da ip datacenter/vpn/esteri, l'operatore ha provato ad aprire il link e non ha funzionato)

Inoltre, con mio sgomento, ho scoperto che su pec non è possibile impostare filtri o spam e secondo il supporto aruba questo è da design perché su pec bisogna ricevere tutto sempre, per legge, anche se è phishing, malware o spam. Quindi, è sufficiente pagare 5 euro l'anno ad aruba e si ha una licenza a mandare spam/phishing illimitata.

My wife and I just came home from vacation, and after 4½ years of avoiding it, we have COVID.

We social distance, usually wear masks in public, and stay up to date on our vaccinations. But all it took was one lady with a mean cough on a two hour flight a week ago to ruin that...or so we think.

The timing really sucks. I had plans for my weekend.

I love soy lattes, but don’t like soy in normal coffee. The unique flavor is a special treat, but it’s too much for daily use.

I’ve tried rice milk, pea milk, oat, hemp, blend, etc. and none of them are that good in coffee.

I want to get away from my whole milk coffee addiction, but nothing comes close enough, and tasting wrong breaks my routine.

All the same I keep trying different brands as I come across them. Almond, unsweetened vanilla variety, is the best I’ve found, but that stuff is pricy af and kinda hard to find (sweetened is easy, unsweetened unflavored is… usually available, but unsweetened vanilla is hard to find)

This kind of thing makes me go into denial. I hate my country, but this absolutely cannot be real. It's horrible clickbait, or propaganda supporting my existing beliefs about how inhumane it is here.

I struggle to imagine someone administering a needle for an innocent man to die, rather than quitting on the spot. I struggle to imagine someone certifying paperwork to appove this to happen. But I am entirely incapable of imagining the number of human cogs that would need to be similarly compliant for this to be followed through to completion. I am not interested in trying to imagine. This story is fiction because admitting otherwise will break what's left of my sanity.

You can show me horrors and get me to admit and speak of them as reality, but you can't get me to believe them.

I made an eggless salad today with blended silken tofu with nooch, salt, white pepper, lemon juice, kala namac, turmeric and put mashed firm tofu, celery bits, fresh dill in it and put it on bread. It was really good, extremely high quality and quantity protein and low fat. Highly recommend

The main categories and keywords of Nazi ideology – those giving radical expression to its destructive charge against the universal concept of man and its genocidal drive, or which in any event afford a glimpse of the horror of the Third Reich – all go back, directly or indirectly, to the colonial tradition. Konzentratsionlager is a calque of ‘concentration camps’; Untermensch is the literal translation of ‘Under Man’; the Endlösung of the Jewish question recalls the ‘ultimate solution’ of the black question, or the ‘final and complete solution’ of the problem of colonial peoples; the Blutschande (against which Nazism endlessly warned) brings to mind ‘miscegenation’ (a cause for horror in the USA of the white supremacy); behind Rassenhygiene is clearly ‘eugenics’. As regards ‘war of extermination’, ‘destruction of the race’ and ‘holocaust’, comment is superfluous. If the terms in italics presided over Hitler’s attempt to build a racial state in Germany and the German Empire, those in quotation marks date back to the British Empire and, above all, the American one, or the regime of white supremacy that raged against Native Americans and blacks in particular, but which did not spare immigrants variously suspected of being alien to the pure white race.

There is no doubt that the laboratory of the Third Reich and of the horrors of the twentieth century was in full swing; and it went back to the colonial tradition, or the history of the treatment inflicted on the ‘barbarians’ in the colonies and the metropolises themselves by those who proclaimed themselves the exclusive representatives of Civilization.

Accordingly, when historical revisionism and The Black Book of Communism date the start of the history of genocide and horror from Communism, they engage in a colossal repression. Solemnly proclaimed, the moral commitment to give voice to unjustly forgotten victims turns into its opposite – a deadly silence that buries the Native Americans, the Herero, the colonial populations, the ‘barbarians’ for a second time. This is a silence fraught with consequences on a specifically historiographical level as well, because it makes it impossible to understand Nazism and Fascism.

Those who have followed my health update and original posts know that I was hit by a car while crossing the street in late June. It’s now been 12 weeks, and I want to give an update on the update.

Just a couple of months ago, I was in really serious pain, with 9 rib fractures, and even with opioid painkillers taken every couple of hours, every movement was excruciating. My left wrist was in a brace and I couldn’t write or type. My face was bruised and numb, with broken bones in my jaw, cheek and eye socket.

Today, I’m mostly better. It’s astounding how resilient my body is. I have a hard time with standing and sitting, but not with the kind of blinding pain that made me want to faint. I rarely wear my brace, and I’ve started running daily.

I’m seeing an occupational therapist, a psychotherapist, and an acupuncturist for better circ

I’m seeing an occupational therapist, a psychotherapist, and an acupuncturist for better circulation and healing.

My broken wrist is still very stiff; I can barely bend it. The orthopaedic surgeon says that I may need another surgery at some point, but I am hopeful. I can type, write, and do most household tasks. It still can’t take a lot of weight; I need to push myself up with my other hand, for example. I am not yet back to the weightroom, which is a bummer, since it was an important form of bonding with my son before the accident.

I have a hard time remembering just how scary and all-encompassing my injuries were that first weekend. I felt like my pain was everything; all I was was a pain-haver. I kind of gave up at some point even imagining what it would be like to get back to normal.

I talked to my therapist about this; I’ve kind of realised that I’m never going to go back to how I was before the accident. I’m always going to have a body that had a really violent set of injuries, forever. But that doesn’t mean it has to be worse. She said, “How do you know it isn’t better?” I’m trying to hold onto that thought.

Legal and financial issues still loom, but they feel like they’re starting to resolve. I kind of realised a while ago that the reason people get pain and suffering payments from legal settlements isn’t to compensate them for the pain they had during the accident; it’s to compensate them for the pain and complications they’re going to have for the rest of their lives. It’s a way to pre-pay for chronic, recurrent medical issues.

I’m doing some household chores, gardening, and other light hand work. I’ve been trying to do extra stints of dishwashing to make up for all the chores I skipped, but I’m literally 3 months behind, and I’m probably never going to catch back up.

Thanks to everyone who’s had kind words about my accident; it’s meant a lot. I’m probably not going to make any further updates, except in that creaky way that people with pins in their bones complain about oncoming storms. No words of wisdom to share except please be careful crossing the street.

Four weeks ago today, I was hit by a truck while crossing the street in Healdsburg, CA.
I was hospitalized for a week in Santa Rosa with 9 rib fractures, a broken wrist and facial bone fractures. I learned how to walk, shower, dress and care for myself while in excruciating pain.
On release, I stayed with my generous and caring brothers and their families in the Bay Area, until doctors cleared me to fly.
I’ve been home in Montreal for almost two weeks. My wife and kids take great care of me.
My wrist is still in a brace and I can’t type well or hold anything in my left hand.
My ribs still hurt, but I’m able to get through most of my day. I’ve been gradually reducing my use of painkillers. Daily I’m taking about 25% of the dosage I took when I was released.
I’m seeing a physical therapist and a psychotherapist to work my way back to something like my normal life.
I also regularly visit a doctor and a dentist.
They say it takes at least 6 weeks to heal broken ribs. I’m hopeful.
In my life, I was overextended. I had my job at Open Earth Foundation, a grant from Summer of Protocols for adding E2EE to ActivityPub, and editing work for my book on ActivityPub for O’Reilly Media.
Everyone has been really accommodating that I had to take time off. I’ve been little by little taking on more responsibilities as I heal.
I am cooking simple meals one-handed at home. I walk 1-2 km per day for exercise, and I’ve eaten out at restaurants 3-4 times.
The next big challenge is dealing with insurance, hospital bills and lawyers as I sort out who pays for what. It is greatly complicated by the fact that I’m a Canadian who had an accident in California.
My wife has been taking good care of this part of the accident for a few weeks, but it’s becoming a bigger part of my life.
Anyway, tl;dr is that I’m getting better and better. Probably not as fast as I’d like, but steady progress. I’ve been incredibly lucky and I’m very grateful.
Thanks in particular to all the people here who’ve expressed well wishes and shared kind words. I haven’t replied directly to everyone, but please know that it meant a lot to me.

Nato nel 1971 da un'idea dell'ingegnere Bob Thomas, il primo worm della storia venne sviluppato per dimostrare la possibilità di creare software in grado di replicarsi.

Creeper, considerato il primo esempio di malware, fu sviluppato nel 1971 non con intenti malevoli, ma come esperimento per testare le potenzialità dei programmi autoreplicanti. A metterlo a punto fu Bob Thomas, ingegnere della BBN Technologies, una delle società che creò e sviluppo ARPANET, la rete di computer da cui si originò Internet nel 1983. Per annullare gli effetti di Creeper, nel 1972 fu ideato Reaper, considerato a tutti gli effetti il primo software di cybersecurity.

Il primo malware della storia vide la luce nel 1971 presso BBN Technologies, una compagnia situata a Cambridge, che giocò un ruolo cruciale nello sviluppo delle reti informatiche, in particolare ARPANET, l'antenato di Internet. Bob Thomas, uno degli ingegneri della società, volle dimostrare la possibilità di creare un programma capace di spostarsi autonomamente tra i computer connessi. All'epoca, i computer PDP-10 della DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) erano tra i più diffusi e utilizzavano un sistema operativo chiamato TENEX, sul quale Thomas decise di condurre il suo esperimento.

Il programma Creeper non era pensato per causare danni. Non cancellava dati né prendeva il controllo del sistema: si limitava a replicarsi, a passare da un computer all'altro e a restituire come output un messaggio che recitava: «I'M THE CREEPER. CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!». Questo messaggio, che invitava simpaticamente a “prendere” Creeper, era tutto ciò che l'utente vedeva sul proprio terminale prima che il worm si trasferisse su un altro sistema.

Nonostante Creeper non fosse distruttivo, la sua esistenza poneva una domanda importante: come si poteva rimuovere? A rispondere a questo quesito fu, Raymond Samuel Tomlinson, un altro ingegnere della BBN Technologies (noto per aver inventato la chiocciola @ nelle e-mail), che nel 1972 sviluppò Reaper, un programma progettato per individuare e cancellare Creeper dai sistemi infettati da quest'ultimo. A dirla tutta, era Reaper e non Creeper a essere in grado di inviare una copia del proprio codice sugli altri computer. Vista la sua capacità di estirpare Creeper, Reaper può essere considerato a tutti gli effetti il primo antimalware della storia, segnando l'inizio della caccia alle minacce informatiche, caccia che continua tutt'oggi.

The idea of needing specialized transport as an individual beyond just walking is a failure of society. Replacing cars with "not-cars" isn't really helping that aspect. You should be structuring society so that cars or "not-cars" have no need to exist for almost everyone.

Someone versed in urban ecosystems could chime in better, because there's gotta be proper terms for city to city transport, city to neighborhood, neighborhood to street, street to home.

Bikes or some kind of personal vehicle are still probably necessary to get you from city to home, because they can't put train stations next to every house (unless they figure out how to shoot us through tubes or something).

I live in a desert and one of the things people don't realize is that because it is so sunny here that ag companies prefer to grow grass and hay for animals here because they can harvest it multiple more times per year than in a place with winter. So people talk about nonsense with cattle that they pee the water they drink back into the earth so it is no big deal and the vegans are exaggerating. The fact is the Imperial USA is currently diverting the entire flow of the Colorado river that millions of people depend on and violating treaty obligations with Mexico to denying indigenous people water so that they can grow fields of grass in Arizona which then gets cut and shipped around the world only to feed animals. It is particularly needed for horses and much of it gets sent to the Saudi royal family's ranching business.

Auf der anderen Seite stehen Dienste wie Google et al., die versuchen, Antworten auf Suchanfragen direkt aus den Suchergebnissen zu extrahieren, um dem Suchenden den Klick auf den entsprechenden Link zu „ersparen“.

Auch wenn ich das generelle Potential von KI durchaus sehe, sind das zwei Bereiche in denen mich deren Anwendung eher nervt!

Ich bin ein „Kind“ der Generation Web 2.0, ich schreibe meine Gedanken ins Web um mich mitzuteilen und mit anderen über meine Ideen und Einschätzungen zu diskutieren und (konstruktiv) zu streiten. Wenn ich was zu schreiben habe, schreibe ich etwas, wenn nicht, nicht.

Leider gibt es aber auch Menschen, die berufsbedingt schreiben müssen, ohne dabei die Freiheit zu haben, dies lediglich nach Lust, Zeit oder Inspiration zu tun. Dieser Druck verstärkt die Verlockung, auf KI-Unterstützung zurückzugreifen natürlich wesentlich.

Ein „wunderbares“ Beispiel hierfür ist die WordPress Community auf LinkedIN. Ein stetiger Stream an ähnlichen und meist inhaltslosen Posts mit einem überzeichneten, grellen, bunten Bild im Comic Stil, in dessen Mitte ein verunstaltetes WordPress Logo prangt!

Mein RSS-Reader ist zum Glück noch frei von solchen Inhalten, aber die Anzahl der KI generierten Bilder steigt auch hier auffällig konstant.

Per definition hat das nichts mehr mit „bloggen“ zu tun¹, aber das ist Wortklauberei und das Problem ist wirklich real!

So real, dass Google aktuell schon damit zu kämpfen hat:

Das ging schneller als ich dachte!

Auf Social Media hab ich ein sehr schönes Kommentar zu der Misere gelesen. Leider finde ich es nicht mehr und muss deshalb improvisieren. Hier eine sinngemäße Zusammenfassung: „Ein Ziel der industriellen Revolution war, unliebsame und stupide Prozesse zu optimieren um dadurch mehr Zeit für Kunst und Kultur zu schaffen. Und was macht AI, sie automatisiert uns genau diese Freiheit und nimmt uns ausgerechnet das Erstellen von Bildern und Texten ab.“

Die Aussage ist sicherlich etwas konstruiert, beschreibt aber genau meine Sorge: Optimiert euren Arbeitsalltag mit und durch AI, damit ihr mehr Zeit zum schreiben, bloggen und „malen“ habt, nicht umgekehrt!

Berlin Fediverse Day 2024

The Berlin Fediverse Day is a conference about the free social network “Fediverse” organized by members of the Berlin Fediverse get-together at c-base. It is aimed at people interested in alternatives to X, Instagram, Facebook and so on; but also at institutions, universities, media, NGOs, political actors and companies who want to exchange information in an open and free environment.

On Saturday 14. September Tobias from the Friendica project will give a presentation about The Fediverse in Europe, providing an overview of who is already there in the Fediverse from European civil society.

The Berlin Fediverse Day will take place at the c-base in Berlin (Rungestr. 20, next to U+S station Jannowitz Brücke) from 13h to 19h. Admission is free, but please register yourself informally.

I went to Vietnam a couple times. If you hang out downtown in the city, you might get a random Jehovah's Witness or Seventh Day Adventist* try to chat you up. "Oh, we can't do missionary work out in the open, so we just do one-on-one conversations like this". Despite the lack of "Jesus saves, die sinner" signs in Hanoi, you can definitely find Catholic and Protestant churches in Vietnam.

The Western press likes to piss and moan about settler nation missionaries that go, without proper visas mind you, to spread their Western versions of Christianity to the DPRK, only to get deported. So am I allowed to enter a white people country without a visa to stir up trouble and expect no consequences???

I'm the furthest thing from an expert on Myanmar. I get everything I know from Burmese friends. But if you look into the minority people situation, many of them are being heavily proselytised by the worst of the Amerikan type. I don't want the Pat Robertson's the world anywhere near struggling people.

*I'm definitely not saying that JWs and SDAs are anywhere near the worst as Christian sects go.

Un tribunale americano ha confermato in appello una sentenza che stabilisce che l'Internet Archive ha violato il diritto d'autore prestando copie digitali di libri

L'Internet Archive ha perso un'importante causa negli Stati Uniti, che potrebbe avere un impatto significativo sul futuro della storia del web. Ieri la Corte d'appello del secondo circuito si è pronunciata contro la storica biblioteca digitale confermando la precedente sentenza nella causa Hachette contro Internet Archive, che aveva stabilito che un progetto di digitalizzazione di libri dell'Internet Archive viola la legge sul copyright.

La Corte d'appello, in particolare, ha respinto la tesi presentata dall'Internet Archive, secondo cui l'iniziativa per il prestito digitale di libri sarebbe protetta dal fair use, la dottrina che consente di violare il copyright in determinate circostanze. Il tribunale americano ha però definito "non convincente" l'argomentazione.

L'Internet Archive – un'organizzazione no profit con sede a San Francisco – aveva lanciato un programma chiamato National emergency library, nel marzo 2020, in un periodo in cui la chiusura delle biblioteche a causa della pandemia impediva a studenti, ricercatori e lettori di accedere a milioni di libri. L'ente aveva dichiarato che il progetto era nato in risposta alle richieste di normali cittadini e altri bibliotecari per aiutare chi era bloccato a casa senza la possibilità di reperire i testi di cui aveva bisogno.

Il Nel era scaturito da un altro progetto di prestiti digitali (tutt'ora in corso): Open library, in cui l'Internet Archive scansiona le copie fisiche dei libri nelle biblioteche permettendo a una persona alla volta di prendere in prestito una versione digitale. Il Nel invece consentiva a diversi utenti di accedere contemporaneamente a un libro scansionato.

Subito dopo il lancio, il Nel è finito al centro delle critiche di alcuni autori, che l'hanno paragonato a un sistema di pirateria. In risposta alla contestazioni, l'Internet Archive ha ripristinato i limiti di prestito nel giro di due mesi. Ma il danno era ormai fatto: nel giugno 2020 un gruppo di importanti case editrici, tra cui Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House e Wiley, hanno fatto causa alla no profit.

Nel marzo 2023 un tribunale distrettuale statunitense si è pronunciato a favore degli editori. Il giudice John G. Koeltl ha stabilito che l'Internet Archive aveva creato “opere derivate” e che non c'era "nulla di trasformativo" nelle sue copie e nei prestiti. Dopo la sentenza, le parti hanno negoziato i termini di un accordo, i cui dettagli non sono stati resi noti. Ma l'organizzazione ha comunque deciso di presentare ricorso.

Aggiunta l'applicazione Bloomee nell'articolo dedicato alle alternative a Spotify

Nell'articolo dedicato alle alternative a Spotify ho aggiunto questo front-end con una bella grafica e con alcune opzioni interessanti che si chiama Bloomee (alle volte scritto anche BloomeeTunes).

Un’altra alternativa per ascoltare musica presa da piattaforme come YouTube e Jio Saavn (una piattaforma indiana di streaming). Anche questa ha molte caratteristiche interessanti tra cui l’assenza di pubblicità e di traccianti, la possibilità di sincronizzare i testi, scaricare la musica per un ascolto offline, timer personalizzato e molto altro.

È prevista in futuro una versione per iOS e raccomandazioni personalizzate grazie all’IA. Esiste sia per Android che per desktop (Windows e Linux).

Stavo pensando che poteva essere carina l'idea di aprire una comunità dedicata alle cose divertenti: video, vignette, immagini o anche semplici battute (penso ad esempio a Lercio)... una sorta di r/funny o meglio c/funny ma qui su Feddit.

So che c'è già memesITA (che è anche abbastanza seguita per altro) ma è appunto dedicata ai meme mentre io pensavo più alla condivisione di qualcosa che abbiamo trovato divertente ma che non è un meme.

Pensavo a regole piuttosto semplici come no alle condivisioni automatiche perché mi piacerebbe che venissero condivise cose che ci hanno fatto ridere o sorridere per davvero e non cose "che normalmente fanno ridere su quel canale YouTube/vignettista" etc.

C'è poi il dubbio sul cattivo gusto/humor nero/satirafattada

Questo documento mostra come – trovare una piattaforma aperta JavaCard (il Feitian A22) basato su un Infineon simile SLE78 – abbiamo compreso l'implementazione di Infineon ECDSA, trovato una vulnerabilità del canale laterale e progettato un pratico attacco del canale laterale. L'attacco viene quindi dimostrato su a YubiKey 5Ci. Infine, mostriamo che la vulnerabilità si estende al più recente Infineon Optiga Trust M e Infineon Optiga TPM microcontrollori di sicurezza.

Il nostro lavoro rileva una vulnerabilità a canale laterale nella libreria crittografica di Infineon Technologies, uno dei maggiori produttori di elementi sicuri. Questa vulnerabilità – che è passata inosservata per 14 anni e circa 80 valutazioni di certificazione dei criteri comuni di più alto livello – è dovuta a un'inversione modulare non a tempo costante.

L'attacco richiede l'accesso fisico all'elemento sicuro (poche acquisizioni elettromagnetiche locali sul canale laterale, ovvero pochi minuti, sono sufficienti) al fine di estrarre la chiave segreta ECDSA. Nel caso del protocollo FIDO, ciò consente di creare un clone del dispositivo FIDO.

Tutti tutti Serie YubiKey 5 (con la versione del firmware inferiore a 5.7) sono influenzati dall'attacco e in effetti tutti i microcontrollori di sicurezza Infineon (inclusi i TPM) che eseguono la libreria crittografica Infineon (per quanto ne sappiamo, qualsiasi versione esistente) sono vulnerabili all'attacco. Questi microcontrollori di sicurezza sono presenti in una vasta gamma di sistemi sicuri – spesso basati su ECDSA – come passaporti elettronici e portafogli hardware in criptovaluta ma anche auto o case intelligenti. Tuttavia, non abbiamo ancora verificato che l'attacco EUCLEAK si applichi a nessuno di questi prodotti.
